사랑이 잘 (Can't Love You Anymore)

The song

‘사랑이 잘’ (Can’t Love You Anymore) is a single by IU, released on 7 April 2017 and printed on the tracklist as ‘사랑이 잘 (With 오혁)’. It is a one-song release, and it followed Through the Night two weeks earlier as the second pre-release from the fourth full-length album.

The album introduction states that it is the first collaboration between the two singers, and describes it as an R&B number with a pared-back arrangement. The song was placed fourth on Palette, which followed on 21 April 2017.

No review of this song on its own was found; two outlets wrote about it in sentences inside their reviews of the fourth full-length album.

IZM reviewed Palette in April 2017. Hwang Seon-eop wrote of this song that “‘Can’t Love You Anymore’, which unfolds a realistic story between a man and a woman in a tone so beguiling that it comes out feeling unreal instead, tells you the collaboration with OHHYUK was a success that could be seen coming”. Going track by track through the attitudes the record draws, the same piece said of it that “on ‘Can’t Love You Anymore’ she cuts love off precisely at the moment of parting”.

Idology (아이돌로지) took up the same record in its new-release column ‘1st Listen’ on 20 May 2017. Mimyo counted this song, with ‘Through the Night’, ‘Ending Scene’ and ‘Full Stop’, among the tracks on the record not to be missed, reading each of them as taking one phase of love. Of the record as a whole he wrote that “with the other tracks carrying varied snapshots of the present against that background, the album plainly satisfies the very definition of what an ‘album’ is”.

Afterwards

The fourth full-length album Palette followed two weeks later, on 21 April 2017, and the second remake record, A Flower Bookmark, Pt. 2, on 22 September that year.
