The record
Veil is Taemin’s special digital single, released on 13 September 2025 with three tracks led by the title track of the same name.
The album introduction by BIGPLANETMADE, carried on Bugs, says the record comes a year and a month after the fifth mini album ETERNAL. It describes ‘FINALE’, carried alongside it, as a ballad written over a piano line and a string arrangement, and the third track is the Japanese version of the title track. The music video went up on the BPM Entertainment channel on 19 September.
Reviews
The Kraze’s Marjolaine Paolantonacci, writing on 19 September 2025, read the release as a pair of songs. Of the title track she wrote: “With ‘Veil,’ TAEMIN delivers an intense song that plays on contrasts. Behind this evocative title, this track explores the conflicting emotions hidden behind an invisible veil—desire and fear, taboos and inner confessions.”
She set out the structure the two songs make together: “By juxtaposing these tracks, TAEMIN constructs a diptych between shadow and light, tension and release, scream and whisper.” The same piece adds: “Where ‘Veil’ screams the vertigo of the forbidden, ‘FINALE’ whispers detachment.” Placed next to each other, she wrote, “the two songs compose a sort of two-act narrative”.
On the length of the release she wrote: “It’s no coincidence that TAEMIN chose this reduced format. By focusing on two emotional poles—temptation and separation—he offers a brief but structured work, which functions almost like an audio-focused short film.”
Among the tracks
The Kraze read the title track as a meeting with a stranger’s version of oneself in a shattered mirror. “What is striking is the mixture of guilt and fascination: TAEMIN begs for mercy but does not give up, and he sinks deeper into the temptation he describes,” the piece says, and: “The veil is not lifted; it is crossed, traversed, at the cost of an assumed loss of control.”
Of the second track the same piece wrote: “If ‘Veil’ deals with dark intoxication, ‘FINALE’ is at the opposite end.” It reads the lyrics as “a gradual acceptance of the ending”, and describes the song as depicting a break-up like a final scene in a theatre, the curtain falling and leaving behind both regret and the need to move on. The third track is the Japanese version of the title track, made for his Japanese audience, which the piece says broadens the scope of his musical universe.
Afterwards
The Kraze noted that the release coincided with the start of the 2025 TAEMIN ARENA TOUR ‘Veil’, which opened in Kanagawa before touring several major Japanese cities.
The next release was the single Long Way Home, six months later on 27 March 2026.
