What it is about

Perfect Crown (21세기 대군부인, ‘21st Century Grand Prince’s Wife’) is set in an alternate present in which Korea is still a constitutional monarchy. Seong Hui-ju (IU), the ambitious daughter of the conglomerate Castle Group, has everything except a title; Grand Prince I-an (Byeon Woo-seok), the late king’s only younger brother, has the title and little else. Pressure on both pushes them into a marriage of convenience that proves harder to keep transactional than planned. Park Joon-hwa (What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim, Alchemy of Souls) directed and Yoo Ji-won wrote the series, which aired on MBC on Fridays and Saturdays at 9:40 p.m. KST from 10 April to 16 May 2026, twelve episodes in all.

Why it matters

The finale drew a 13.8% nationwide average (Nielsen Korea), the highest of the run and the most-watched programme on Korean television that day. On Disney+, which streams the drama exclusively in Korea and internationally (Hulu in the United States), the series set the platform’s biggest-ever viewership for a Korean series within five days of its 10 April launch and, on 15 May, was named its most-watched Korean title worldwide over a first 28 days. In its final week the production team apologised for historical inaccuracies in a coronation scene and said the relevant audio and subtitles would be revised for rebroadcasts, video-on-demand and streaming.
