Why one K-pop album comes in five versions
One 2026 album is listed in five versions that print the same nine tracks. How to read what differs on an official product page.
An album version (앨범 버전) is one release sold as several different products. The recording on each is the same; the box, the printed matter and the collectible items inside are not. That is the short answer to the question this page exists for, and the rest of the guide is how to see it on the page the seller publishes.
The worked example is a 2026 release. NCT 127’s seventh album BLINGY came out on 24 August 2026 and is listed by SM Entertainment’s own store as five separate products: Photobook Ver., JET Poster Ver., CALL 127 Ver. (SMART ALBUM), SMini Ver. (SMART ALBUM) and JET Keychain Ver. (SMART ALBUM). A second release, RIIZE’s second mini album II (15 June 2026), is used where it shows something the first does not.
Every step below is a reading step, performed on an official product page. This guide describes what the versions are; it recommends none of them and carries no prices. Every page cited here was checked on 27 August 2026.
1. Find every version the store lists
Open the release on the store the label runs and count the products listed under one album title. BLINGY has five, each sold as its own product: Photobook Ver., JET Poster Ver., CALL 127 Ver. (SMART ALBUM), SMini Ver. (SMART ALBUM) and JET Keychain Ver. (SMART ALBUM). RIIZE’s II has four: Special Ver., Photobook Ver., SMini Ver. and Figure Ver.
Two shapes of listing make the count less obvious than it looks, and both are visible on the page itself:
- One product can hold more than one version inside it. The II Photobook Ver. page lists “1. llog A Ver.” and “2. llog B Ver.”, each with the same seven-line component list.
- One version can be split into a product per member. SHINee’s sixth mini album Atmos (June 2025) is listed as “(RaIn Ceremony Ver.)(MINHO)” and as “(RaIn Ceremony Ver.)(KEY)”: the same medium, the same six tracks and the same component shape, sold as two separate products.
2. Compare the track list printed on each page
Every product page prints the album’s track list. Read them side by side, and on these releases they do not differ.
All five BLINGY pages print the same nine tracks in the same order: “Blingy” (the title track), “Legacy”, “Piñata”, “Step Up”, “IKR”, “Getaway”, “Day After Day”, “127 Million Miles” and “I mean, It’s about time”. The Korean storefront states the same thing as a count — 총 9곡, nine tracks in total.
The three II pages that print a list — Special Ver., Photobook Ver. and SMini Ver. — carry the same six tracks in the same order: “SOAR”, “Do your dance” (the title track), “D-D-Done”, “Overdrive”, “Like a Bomb” and “In a Loop”. The Figure Ver. page showed “*To be updated” in place of the list when it was checked on 27 August 2026.
This is the fact the rest of the guide rests on. Whatever else changes between versions, the music does not.
3. Read the Media line, which says what will play the album
Each SM product page carries a line reading Media:. It is the answer to what the album is played on, and across these two releases it takes five values: CD, CD-R, Mini CD-R, Music NFC CD-R (also written Music NFC CD) and QR (also QR CARD).
CDandCD-Rare ordinary discs. BLINGY Photobook Ver. and JET Poster Ver. are bothMedia: CD.Mini CD-Ris a smaller disc, and the seller prints its own warning on the II Special Ver. page: “This album includes a Mini CD which may not be compatible with some CD players that do not support Mini CD playback. Please consider this when purchasing.”Music NFC CD-RandQRare not played in a disc player at all. There is a card, and a phone reads it. NFC (near-field communication) is the method by which a phone reads a card held against it; a QR code is the square pattern a phone’s camera scans.
The industry term for that last kind is a platform album (플랫폼 앨범), also called a digital album (디지털앨범). Circle Chart — the national chart operated by the Korea Music Content Association (한국음악콘텐츠협회) — defines it on its own FAQ page as an album that is not sold with the sound fixed on the medium, as with a conventional CD or LP, but is used by connecting to a smartphone application through a QR code, NFC and so on. SM’s own name for its platform-album products is SMART ALBUM (스마트 앨범), which is why three of the five BLINGY versions carry that word in their product name.
4. Follow the app steps printed under an NFC or QR version
When the Media: line names NFC or QR, the registration steps are printed on the same page, underneath it. They are worth following in the seller’s order rather than guessing, because nothing on the card works until it has been registered to an account.
- For the NFC type, SM prints four steps: install the “Smart Music Card” application; log in with a MUSIC NATION SMTOWN account or a Smart Music Card account; tag the NFC CD to the phone — on iOS, touch the antenna icon button at the bottom right and then tag it; on Android, set the phone’s NFC to default mode and then tag it; and download the album to reach the contents.
- For the QR type, SM prints six steps for the NEMO CARD: install NEMOZ; sign up and verify the email address; press “Verify Complete”; press “+” and use the “QR” feature to scan the QR code at the bottom left of the back of the NEMO card; press the check button to register the album to the account; and then use the contents, which the maker publishes in several languages.
Nemoz Lab, which makes the Nemo card, describes the same product as “Tag & Play! The Next CD, Nemo Album”, says a card is activated by NFC or by a Nemo code, and states that “when you activate a Nemo card on your account, you can own the contents on the Nemo card forever”.
If a card will not register, the published instructions are the seller’s product page and the maker’s own site or app listing — Nemoz Lab’s for a Nemo card, Kihno’s for a KiT, Weverse Company’s Weverse Albums page for a Weverse Album. A fan account is not a support channel, and no one else’s version of the steps is the official one.
5. Read the Contents list, which is where the versions actually differ
The [Contents] block is the part that changes from version to version, and the seller itemises it line by line. In BLINGY:
- Photobook Ver. (
Media: CD) — two cover types, a 96-page photobook, a CD-R, five stickers, a folded poster, a postcard, an identity card, a photocard and a group photocard. - JET Poster Ver. (
Media: CD) — six cover posters, one postcard, a CD-R, one sticker sheet, a folded poster, a paper model kit and a photocard. There is no photobook at all. - CALL 127 Ver. (
Media: Music NFC CD-R) — an out box, a box sleeve, an emblem sticker, a QR card, 28 postcards, six stickers, four unit photocards and two special photocards. - SMini Ver. (
Media: Music NFC CD-R) — five cover types, a keyring ball chain, the Music NFC CD itself, an acrylic keychain and a photocard. No book of any kind. - JET Keychain Ver. (
Media: QR) — a package cover, a 72-page logbook, a jet keychain, a folded poster, a QR card, five stickers and a photocard.
Some of the words in those lists are worth having: a photobook (포토북) is a bound book of photographs, 96 pages here; a photocard (포토카드) is a card-sized printed photograph packed in the album; a folded poster (접지포스터) is a poster folded into the package rather than rolled.
Each line then carries its own note in brackets — “(Same image per version)” or “(Different image per version)”, in Korean 버전별 이미지 동일 and 버전별 이미지 상이. That notation is the most precise thing on the page: it says which components genuinely change between two versions and which are the same object in a different box. On the BLINGY Photobook Ver. page the 96-page photobook is the same across the two covers, while the CD-R, the stickers, the poster, the postcard, the identity card and the photocards are different.
6. Read the randomisation wording on each component
Some components are not identified by the seller and not chosen by the buyer. The page says so per component, as a fraction of a set whose size it gives: “Photocard: Random 1 out of 5 types included” on the BLINGY pages, “Photocard: Random 1 out of 6 types” on the II pages, and in Korean 포토카드 : 5종 중 랜덤 1종 삽입. That is what a random photocard (랜덤 포토카드) is — one unnamed card out of a named set.
Three variations turn up in the same lists:
- The draw can be of a whole set rather than a single item: “Photocard: Random 1 set out of 3 sets (6 types per set)” and “Sticker: Random 1 set out of 6 sets (3 types per set)” on the II Special Ver. page.
- The draw can be layered: “Special Photocard: 2 types included (1 group + 1 out of 5 individual types randomly)” on the CALL 127 Ver. page.
- It is not only photocards. On these pages randomisation also covers the folded poster, the postcard, an identity card, a sticker set, a paper model kit (“Paper Model Kit (9 types): Random 1 set of 5 sets included”), a keychain, a figure and the outer cover, and the II Special Ver. page lists a “First press limited gift: Random 1 out of 12 types”.
The odds are stated once, at the foot of the component list: “The random components included in this album are distributed with equal probability” — in Korean, 본 음반에 포함된 랜덤 구성품은 동일한 확률로 구성되어 있습니다. Some pages translate the same Korean sentence as “The random items included in this album are composed at the same probability”.
The buyer does not pick, and the seller says so. Weverse Shop, listing CORTIS’s second EP GREENGREEN in August 2026, describes a random version item as “random 1 out of 5 versions” and adds: “(You cannot choose a version.)” The same listing shows the other axis of the same question — the EP appears as “RANDOM” and as “SET”, each in a standard and a Weverse Albums form, alongside a “(Dice ver.)” and a “(‘Blue Lips’ Lip Balm ver.)”. RANDOM and SET describe what arrives, not a grade of product.
7. Check the chart operator’s own counting rule
The last question a version raises is what it does to the charts, and it is better read in the operator’s own words than in a summary of them. Circle Chart’s FAQ states, as the sixth of its counting criteria: 음원의 트랙리스트가 정확히 동일하면 같은 앨범으로 집계하나, 매체가 다른 경우 구분하여 각각 집계한다 — if the track list of the recording is exactly identical it is counted as the same album, but where the medium differs the versions are counted separately.
Applied to the worked example, that sentence puts BLINGY Photobook Ver. and JET Poster Ver. — both Media: CD, both with the same nine tracks — under one album, and treats the NFC and QR versions as a different medium. Circle Chart does not publish on that page how separately counted media are then displayed or totalled, so this guide stops where the sentence stops.
Platform albums are counted rather than excluded. Circle Chart’s approved list names SMC, MINIRECORD, Nemo, Weverse, POCA, META, PLVE, 뮤지콘, LICON, EVER ver, Rising Album, STAYG and hellolive, and says new platform media are approved after a sample check against the same criteria. Weverse Company states that “100% of the album sales of Weverse Albums will count for Hanteo Chart and Circle Chart”, and PocaAlbum states 포카앨범의 모든 판매량은 써클차트 및 한터차트에 100% 반영됩니다 — all of its sales are reflected in Circle Chart and Hanteo Chart.
One consequence is worth knowing, because it produces two different numbers for one album. The two Korean album charts count different events: Circle Chart’s album chart counts shipment quantity net of returns across TAPE, LP, CD, USB, KiT and platform albums, while Hanteo Chart describes itself as the Korean chart based on real-time sales, compiled from the album sales of its affiliated stores. Two figures for one release are two measurements, not a contradiction.
Frequently asked questions
Do different versions have different songs?
No. The five BLINGY version pages print the same nine tracks in the same order, and the three II pages that carry a track list print the same six. Circle Chart’s counting rule is written on the same assumption: an exactly identical track list is the same album.
If the songs are the same, what is different?
Paper, objects and odds. The versions differ in the book (a 96-page photobook, a 72-page logbook, or no book at all), in the printed extras (cover posters, postcards, stickers, an identity card, a paper model kit), in a physical object (a keyring, an acrylic keychain, a figure) and in which components are randomised and out of how large a set. The medium differs too: three of the five BLINGY versions are read by a phone rather than a disc player. The seller’s page states each of these line by line.
Is a CD player needed?
Only where the Media: line says so. CD and CD-R are discs. Mini CD-R is a disc that the seller itself warns “may not be compatible with some CD players that do not support Mini CD playback”. Music NFC CD and QR CARD are read by a phone through an app, and there is nothing to put in a player.
What is a platform album, and does it count on the charts?
In Circle Chart’s own definition, a platform album (플랫폼 앨범), also called a digital album (디지털앨범), is an album that is not sold with the sound fixed on the medium the way a CD or LP is, but is used by connecting to a smartphone application through a QR code, NFC and so on. Circle Chart counts them: its published list of approved platform albums includes SMC, Nemo, Weverse and POCA among thirteen names, and its criteria require, among other things, that such an album be distributed through the physical album distribution chain, print the track information on the physical medium, play offline and need the physical medium again on re-access rather than working as a one-time key.
What are Weverse Albums, KiT and POCA?
Three further platform albums, each described here in its maker’s own words. Weverse Albums (Weverse Company): “a swift QR code scan from the digital album” imports the whole album into the app, where the photobook is a high-resolution digital one and the photocards are kept in the app, with animated motion covers; the company’s app listing puts it as “No more printed photobooks!”. KiT (키트 앨범, Kihno): “a new physical format of music that you purchase, like a CD or Vinyl”, loaded into the free KiTplayer app — Kihno’s own site describes two physical shapes, 에어 키트, a button type held to the bottom of the phone and pressed until it clicks, and 키트, an earphone-jack type inserted into the jack and removed once the download starts. POCA (포카앨범): registered with a single scan, and described by its maker as an eco-oriented album made only with certified eco paper and soy ink, with the package size reduced by 80 per cent. What is physically inside one specific Weverse Albums product is not listed on any official page this guide was able to check, so it is not stated here.
Is the QR card in the box the album?
It depends which QR card. On a platform-album version the QR card, or the NFC card, is how the album is registered and played — that is what the six-step NEMO CARD manual on the SM pages is for. Separately, some CD albums sold through Weverse Shop have carried a QR card that is a purchase-verification survey card rather than the album: Weverse Shop’s notice says it applies “only … to QR codes enclosed in ‘CD/Album’, not other QR codes distributed in offline events or enclosed in other merch”, and that the survey type “can be distinguished by the different QR card designs (for example, the standard version, compact version, and Weverse Albums version.)”. Those two notices date from 2021 and 2024, and beyond those sentences the official pages do not settle every case, so this guide does not guess at the rest.
