BTS's 'ARIRANG' Tokyo Dome Concert Gets Its First TV Broadcast on Japan's TBS on 28 November
Japan's TBS will air the first night of BTS's 'ARIRANG' world tour at Tokyo Dome, recorded on 17 April, at 8 p.m. on 28 November on the CS channel TBS Channel 1, as the concert's first and exclusive TV broadcast. Star News reported that TBS is scheduling 28 BTS-related programmes through November.
What happened
Japan’s TBS will broadcast the first night of BTS’s ‘ARIRANG’ world tour at Tokyo Dome. The concert was recorded at Tokyo Dome on 17 April, and the programme is titled BTS WORLD TOUR ‘ARIRANG’ IN JAPAN. TBS announced it as the concert’s first TV broadcast, and an exclusive one.
TBS posted the schedule on its official page on 16 October. The same page introduced the show as BTS’s first concert in Japan in about seven years, given by a full group back together after about three years and nine months.
When and where
According to the TBS programme page, the broadcast runs on Saturday 28 November from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Japan time. The channel is TBS Channel 1, a CS satellite channel carrying the latest drama, music and film. The recording is listed as Tokyo Dome on Friday 17 April.
TBS is building November around BTS as well. Star News reported that the special carries the subtitle Precious New Chapter and that 28 BTS-related programmes, including concerts, variety shows and films, are scheduled across the month.
Why it matters
The concert being broadcast is the tour’s first stage in Japan. The TBS programme page wrote that BTS chose this Tokyo Dome show as the overseas kick-off of the world tour, and that the title track ‘SWIM’ was performed in Japan for the first time here. Sports Kyunghyang and Star News reported that the Tokyo Dome shows drew 110,000 people over two days.
The moment TBS singled out is the sing-along of ‘Arirang’ in ‘Body to Body’. ‘Body to Body’ is a track on the fifth full-length album ARIRANG, and it sets the melody of the Korean folk song ‘Arirang’ in a modern sound. TBS described the scene as the moment “the power of music connected people’s hearts as one”. According to Sports Kyunghyang, the Japanese magazine SPUR and the music outlet Real Sound also wrote about the sing-along right after the shows.
