How a K-pop fansign draw decides who attends
Korean fansign seats go to a draw among buyers of one designated album version, not to a queue or a spend ranking. What the notices actually say.
A Korean fansign (팬사인회) — an event at which the artist signs an album for the person standing in front of them — hands out its seats by a draw. Four sellers say it in near-identical language across the six notices read for this guide: a stated number of winners is drawn from among the people who bought a designated product inside a stated window. Music Korea’s August 2026 notice reads “구매자 분들 중 20명 추첨”, 20 drawn from among the buyers. YES24’s notice for HIGHLIGHT reads “YES24 회원 중 총 30명 추첨”, 30 drawn from among the members who entered. Nothing in any of those notices makes the order of purchase relevant, and none of them ranks entrants by what they spent.
Three words carry the whole procedure, and the Standard Korean Language Dictionary (표준국어대사전), published by the National Institute of Korean Language, defines all three. 응모 (應募) is “모집에 응하거나 지원함” — putting your name in when entries are called for. 추첨 (抽籤) is “제비를 뽑음” — drawing lots. 당첨 (當籤) is “추첨에서 뽑힘” — being the one drawn.
There are two kinds of event, often announced in one notice as two separate entry products. An in-person fansign (대면 사인회) is the signing described above. A video call fansign (영상통화 사인회, written 비디오콜 이벤트 in some notices) is the same signing done over a video call; YG Entertainment’s own notice defines it as “아티스트와 당첨자가 정해진 시간 동안 (1분) 영상통화를 통해 사인회 이벤트를 진행합니다” — artist and winner hold the signing over a video call for a set time, one minute in that event.
One caveat governs everything below. There is no industry-wide rulebook for fansign draws. Every rule in this guide is a per-event rule taken from that event’s own notice, and the notices differ from one another on real points — most sharply on whether an entry purchase can be cancelled before the draw. Music Korea’s two 2026 notices state 청약철회 불가, no withdrawal of purchase; YES24’s HIGHLIGHT notice accepted a cancellation until 14:59 on announcement day and voided any win that resulted. What follows is the shape those notices share, read against notices published between 2022 and August 2026. The rule for any particular event is that event’s own notice, and nothing else.
1. Find the notice the event is run under
A fansign draw is announced by the shop that sells the qualifying product, on that shop’s own event board. Music Korea publishes them on a public EVENT공지 board and flags each one 진행중이벤트 (event in progress) or 종료된이벤트 (event ended), so an open draw and a closed one sit on the same page and are told apart by the flag.
The act’s own community usually mirrors the announcement and names the shop rather than running the draw itself. TWS’s Weverse notice of 9 April 2026, for an event held in Seoul that September, named 조은뮤직 as the shop taking the entries and posting the winners.
The notice is the rule for that event; a summary of it, anywhere, is not. It is also revocable — Music Korea and YES24 both state that the event may be changed in part or cancelled without prior notice at the organiser’s discretion.
2. Check which product the notice makes eligible
An entry is attached to a specific product, not to the release in general. YES24 puts it plainly: “본 이벤트 상품은 응모권이 포함된 상품” — the event product is the one that carries the 응모권, the entry right.
The notice names the qualifying product (응모 상품) and often excludes the rest of the release by name. HIGHLIGHT’s 2025 notice said “JEWEL Ver. / Platform Ver. 은 이벤트 응모 대상이 아닙니다” — those two versions of the same album were not eligible — and added that an ordinary, non-event copy bought inside the window still does not enter the draw. TWS’s 2026 notice named two qualifying versions and said “이 외 버전은 응모에 해당되지 않습니다”: other versions do not enter.
Where a release runs both kinds of event, they are separate products chosen at the moment of ordering. Music Korea’s July 2026 notice ran a video call draw and an in-person draw side by side — 40 winners in total, 10 for the video call and 30 for the in-person fansign — and stated that each could be entered separately and that both could be won.
3. Read the entry window, and when it actually closes
The notice states the 응모 기간 (entry window) to the minute in Korea Standard Time (KST). Music Korea’s HYNN notice ran from 12:00 on 7 August 2026 to 23:59:59 on 9 August 2026. TWS’s ran from 11:00 on 30 April 2026 to 23:59 on 2 May 2026.
The closing moment is measured at payment completion, not at the moment an order is placed. “이벤트 응모 마감은 결제완료 시간 기준으로 응모 처리됩니다” appears in all four Music Korea and YES24 notices read here. YES24 spells out what that means for bank transfer — “‘무통장 입금’ 선택 시 응모 기간 내 입금 확인이 되어야 정상적으로 응모가 완료됩니다” — a transfer confirmed after the window has closed does not produce an entry.
4. Check the name the entry is registered under
The draw runs on the applicant details as they were entered, and those same details are what gets checked afterwards. One order number carries one applicant: “하나의 주문번호에는 한 명의 응모자만 응모 가능하며, 여러 명 응모 시 첫번째 응모자만 유효합니다” — only the first applicant named on an order is valid. YES24 counts by account instead: several buyers ordering under one ID are treated as one applicant.
The registered name has to be the name on the identity document that will be shown. For an applicant who is not a Korean national the notices require the English name in the passport: “외국인 분들은 꼭 여권 상의 영어 이름으로 응모자명(주문인)을 등록해주시기 바랍니다. (한글 이름으로 응모 불가)” — a Korean transliteration is not accepted. YES24 also asks a foreign entrant for an SMS-reachable phone number and an email address, because a winner is contacted individually.
Entering from outside Korea is ordinary rather than exceptional. The sellers in these notices list Korean, English, Japanese and Chinese storefronts of the same shop: Music Korea names musickorea.asia, musickorea.com, musickorea.jp and musickoreacn.com as one 판매처, one seller. YES24 runs Korean, English and Chinese storefronts.
A minor buys with a legal guardian’s consent in YES24’s notice: “미성년자의 경우 법정대리인의 동의 하에 상품을 구입해 주시기 바랍니다.” And a name or contact registered here cannot be changed once the winners are out: “당첨자 발표 후 당첨자 이름 및 연락처 변경은 절대 불가하며, 반영되지 않습니다.”
5. Read how the notice counts entries, and what it caps
Copies bought under one applicant identity during the window are summed automatically into that many entries. This is the most consistently worded rule in the whole set, and the sellers publish the arithmetic themselves. Music Korea: “이벤트 기간 내 동일한 응모자 정보로 여러 건을 주문하신 경우 모두 합산하여 총 구매하신 수량과 동일한 횟수로 자동 응모됩니다”, with the worked example that two copies ordered first and three ordered later count as five entries. YES24 gives the same 2 + 3 = 5 example under “중복 응모가 가능합니다”. YG gives 3 + 5 = 8 across several order numbers.
The cap in these notices is on the prize, not on the entry, and the two are easy to confuse. “1인 1매, 타인 양도 불가” and “당첨자는 본인(1인1매)만 참여 가능하며, 타인에게 양도/매매는 불가합니다” describe what a win is: one seat, for the winner in person, neither transferable nor for sale. The same notices that carry those sentences also state that repeat entry is allowed. 1인 1매 means one seat per winner. It does not mean one entry per person.
What the notices do not say is how the draw itself is made. They state that the winners are drawn, and none of them describes the method, names who runs it or publishes how many people entered.
One further mechanical fact, stated by the sellers themselves: “뮤직코리아의 판매 수량은 한터차트와 써클차트의 판매량 집계에 반영됩니다” — quantities sold there are counted in the Hanteo and Circle chart tallies. A copy bought for a draw is therefore registered twice by two different systems: once as an entry, once as a sale.
6. Wait for the announcement at the hour the notice states
The notice fixes the announcement to a date, an hour and a place, and the gap after the window closes is short — one to three days in every notice read here. Music Korea’s HYNN entry closed at 23:59:59 on 9 August 2026 and the winners went up “2026년 8월 10일(월) 12시 (KST) 이후” on the shop’s 당첨자 게시판, its winners’ board. YES24 posts to an event winner-announcement page and sends each winner an individual MMS. TWS’s notice pointed at 조은뮤직’s 당첨자 발표 board at 20:00 on 3 May 2026.
The public list is masked. A YG SELECT winners’ board from December 2024 shows a numbered row per winner with the name, the year of birth and the email address partly replaced by asterisks; that board carried 50 winners, 40 for the online event and 10 for the physical store, showing that one draw can span both. The board is the public record that the draw took place; the individual message is how a winner is actually told.
7. Bring a physical identity document to an in-person fansign
Identity is checked at the door, and the document must be physical and unexpired. “모든 신분증은 유효기간이 만료되지 않은 실물 신분증만 유효한 것으로 인정합니다” — only an unexpired physical ID counts — and “신분증 미지참 시 입장이 절대 불가합니다”: without one, entry is refused.
Music Korea’s 2026 notices list what is accepted:
- a minor: a passport, or a 청소년증 (youth ID card, issued by a 주민센터 community service centre)
- a Korean adult: a 주민등록증 (resident registration card), a driver’s licence or a passport
- any foreign national: a passport or an 외국인등록증 (alien registration card)
- a student card, or any other card, is not accepted
YES24 additionally accepts Korea’s government mobile ID apps (정부24, 행정안전부&경찰청, PASS) but not a screenshot of one: “신분증의 사진, 프린트물, 모바일 신분증 캡처 파일은 인정하지 않습니다”, and the app may be asked to be opened at the desk. A holder of a Korean passport issued on or after 21 December 2020 must present it together with a 여권정보증명서 (passport information certificate). A non-Korean is identified by the English name in the passport and by nothing else.
On the day, check-in and number-tag distribution open 30 minutes before the start in the Music Korea notices and 40 to 45 minutes before in the YES24 ones. Identity is verified first, then the seat number itself is drawn on the spot and the signing runs in seat order; YES24 warns that losing the 번호표 (number tag) ends participation, and TWS’s notice adds that a number tag may not be copied, transferred or sold.
The album signed is one of the copies the winner already bought, set aside by the shop: “당첨자 분들께는 구매하신 앨범 중 1장을 이벤트 현장에서 수령하실 수 있도록 준비해드립니다.” Signing is limited to that item and to one name — the winner’s own name, or one nickname in YES24’s notice, written in Hangul or English. Photography is allowed from the winner’s own seat and not while queuing or while being signed for, and live streaming is not permitted. What may be handed over varies by notice: letters were accepted in all of them, while other gifts were accepted in one, refused in another and returned to the sender after the event in a third.
8. Register the video call details before the notice’s deadline
A video call win asks for a second registration, and that registration has its own deadline. YES24: “정해진 기한 내 개인정보 등록 및 친구추가 되지 않을 경우 이벤트 당첨은 무효가 됩니다” — if the details are not registered and the event account not added by the stated time, the win is void. Music Korea states the same rule in the same shape.
What is registered is the messaging account the call will come to, and that account is named per event rather than by any standard. Music Korea’s July 2026 event ran on KakaoTalk’s 페이스톡 video call. YG’s 2022 event ran on LINE, on the LINE ID given at entry, which could not be changed afterwards. A Weverse Shop event in 2025 collected name, date of birth, KakaoTalk ID and mobile number. YES24 asks an overseas winner for a KakaoTalk ID and a phone number with its country code, and requires the ID and the number to belong to the same account. The rule the notices state is about the account, not about where the phone number was issued.
The call itself, in YG’s own description: the winner waits with the phone, takes the incoming video call, the signing happens during the call and the signed album is posted separately afterwards. The length is a set time per member — one minute in the YG and Weverse Shop events. Identity is checked before the call here too. A winner who does not answer twice has the turn passed on, with one further attempt at the end of the running order. Only the winner may be on screen: the call may be ended if anyone else appears, and recording, photographing or filming it with a second device is not allowed. Music Korea also asks entrants not to phone the shop while the event is running.
Frequently asked questions
Is a fansign seat first-come, first-served?
No. The notices award the seats by a draw among the people who entered: “구매자 분들 중 20명 추첨”, 20 drawn from among the buyers, and “YES24 회원 중 총 30명 추첨”, 30 drawn from among the members. 추첨 is defined in the Standard Korean Language Dictionary as 제비를 뽑음, drawing lots. Order of purchase appears as a condition in none of the notices read here.
Do the notices say how the draw is carried out?
No. Every notice states that the winners are drawn, and not one of them describes the method, names who runs it or publishes how many people entered. No official notice states the odds of a draw, and this guide states none either.
What happens to an entry that is not drawn?
The albums are not part of the draw. Every entrant’s copies are shipped in sequence after the event ends, and the 응모자 특전 (entrant benefit) goes to everyone who entered, one per copy bought — an unreleased photocard in the Music Korea, YES24 and Weverse Shop notices read here, with winners in one of them additionally receiving a signed polaroid. Whether the purchase can still be cancelled is set by that notice and by nothing more general: Music Korea’s 2026 notices state 청약철회 불가, no withdrawal of purchase, and YES24’s BOYNEXTDOOR notice says the same, while YES24’s HIGHLIGHT notice accepted cancellation until 14:59 on announcement day and voided any win that followed.
Can someone else attend in a winner’s place?
No. “당첨자는 본인(1인1매)만 참여 가능하며, 타인에게 양도/매매는 불가합니다” — only the winner in person may take part, and the place may be neither given nor sold to anyone else. These are closed events: YES24 states “본 이벤트는 비공개로 진행되며, 당첨된 본인만 참가 가능합니다” and asks people who were not drawn not to come to the area. On a video call the same rule holds on screen, and the call may be ended if anyone other than the winner appears.
Can someone who is not a Korean national enter and attend?
Yes, and every notice read here provides for it in English as well as Korean: “Foreign winners can only enter if their name and passport’s English name are the same.” The applicant name is registered as the English name in the passport, the document shown at the door is a passport or an 외국인등록증 (alien registration card), an SMS-reachable number and an email address are asked for and the same shops run English, Japanese and Chinese storefronts. The notices cover identity documents only. They say nothing about visas, travel or entry to Korea, and neither does this guide.
Who runs the draw, and where do questions go?
The shop is the 판매처, the seller: it takes the entries, runs the draw and posts the winners on its own board. The notice also names the agency and label among the parties a winner’s personal data is passed to — Music Korea’s July 2026 notice names 뮤직코리아, 드림어스 and JYP Entertainment, and YES24’s names YES24, KOZ 엔터테인먼트, 위버스컴퍼니 and 하이브 — and the data is destroyed after the event, within seven days of it in YES24’s notice. Questions go to the shop running the draw, at the contact printed on its own notice: Music Korea publishes 031-946-8210, and YES24 directs enquiries to 1544-3800 or to its 고객센터 1:1 문의 form. A fan account is not a channel for any of this.
