KiiiKiii's 'Pop Off Pop Off': WhyKiiiKiii, Explained
KiiiKiii's third mini album WhyKiiiKiii arrived on 10 August 2026 behind a travel-agency website, sold about 82,000 copies in its first week and put 'Pop Off Pop Off' at number one on Spotify Korea. The second-year numbers, explained.
What happened
KiiiKiii released their third mini album, WhyKiiiKiii, at 6 p.m. KST on 10 August 2026, with ‘Pop Off Pop Off’ as the title track and the official music video published on Starship Entertainment’s YouTube channel the same evening. The six-track record is the group’s first release in about seven months, following the January mini album Delulu Pack. Starship describes the single as an electronic synth-pop song built on intense synth sounds, with summer lyrics that read, in Star News’ English-edition translation, as ‘Hot as always’ and ‘Carefree sandcastle’. The label calls it a ‘KiiiKiii-style summer song’.
The rollout began three weeks earlier. On 19 July the group’s official website, kiiikiii.kr, was rebuilt as a fictional travel agency selling a ‘WhyKiiiKiii Tour’, and on 20 July Star Today reported the 10 August date as confirmed. The site splits a day into six time slots, one per track — ‘Ever2Late!’, ‘Hey Hi’, ‘Pop Off Pop Off’, ‘SWEET SOUR’, ‘Candy Pink Magic Hole Flip Phone (나 어떡해)’ and ‘Blue Hour’ — each with a listed tour guide (the group itself for ‘Pop Off Pop Off’, an individual member or a pair of members for the rest). Visitors who enter a name, departure point and date receive a boarding pass whose destination reads ‘WhyKiiiKiii’.
Teasers followed course by course: a stop-motion video for ‘Candy Pink Magic Hole Flip Phone’ on Starship’s YouTube channel on 30 July; ‘Blue Hour’ concept photos that the site unlocked in exchange for a five-star review, reported by Sports Khan on 2 August; the highlight medley and a TikTok challenge clip on 3 August; and the music-video teaser on 7 August.
Why is it trending?
The first numbers came from the domestic charts. Newsen reported on 19 August that ‘Pop Off Pop Off’ topped the Bugs real-time chart on release day, reached number one on Melon’s HOT100 with a peak of 24th on the TOP100, and was number one on Apple Music’s ‘Today’s Top 100: Korea’ and ‘Top 25: Seoul’. All six tracks entered Apple Music’s Korean Top 100, Melon’s HOT100 and Spotify’s Korea Top 200. The music video went to number one on YouTube’s worldwide trending chart immediately after release. First-week sales (초동, chodong) came to about 82,000 copies, roughly double the 41,000 of Delulu Pack. The mini album reached number one on iTunes’ K-pop album chart in France, the Netherlands and Australia, among others, with top-ten placings in 13 countries and regions including the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada.
Streaming caught up ten days after release. According to Starship, quoted by Sports Seoul on 20 August, the song passed 450,000 daily streams on Spotify on 19 August and stood at number one on the Spotify Korea chart as of 10 a.m. on 20 August, the group’s second Spotify Korea number one after ‘404 (New Era)’. On Apple Music it was number one on the Popular chart and ‘Today’s Top 100: Korea’, and held the top spot on the Seoul and Busan Top 25 charts; WhyKiiiKiii led the popular-albums chart.
The promotion run is where the second-year framing comes from. KiiiKiii gave the first stages for ‘Pop Off Pop Off’ and ‘Candy Pink Magic Hole Flip Phone (나 어떡해)’ on KBS2’s Music Bank on 14 August; Sports Seoul reported that Forbes covered their main-stage set at Head In The Clouds LA 2026 in California, the group’s first performance in the United States, about a year after debut. On 22 August, at Tencent Music’s TME live International Music Awards 2026 (TIMA) at Kai Tak Stadium in Hong Kong, they received the Melon Music Choice award and performed ‘404 (New Era)’ and ‘Pop Off Pop Off’ back to back, at their first appearance at the awards.
