99 Degrees

The song

‘99 Degrees’ is the single Jaehyun released on 10 July 2026. It is his first release in about a year and eight months, after the first full-length album J and the single ‘Unconditional’.

The album introduction on Bugs describes the song as a ballad that opens on a fine piano line, gathers instruments as it goes and leaves only the voice at the end, and states that Jaehyun took part in writing and composing it. The credits name Jaehyun, HYUN, Simon Petrén and Shakka Philip for the words and the music, with Simon Petrén on the arrangement.

The same text explains the title. It is about finding the most complete love inside the incompleteness of 99 degrees, one short of the 100 at which water boils, and about a love that is finished only by the other person.

Reviews

Idology (아이돌로지) ran the song in ‘Weekly’, its column on the records of the second week of July 2026. Quibi wrote that it is “the first single he puts out after the gap of military service, and one feels that while the thick, unhurried taste is unchanged, its power to move has doubled”. He added that “in the manner of a lyric he took part in writing himself, a tender romanticism that never overheats is well expressed here”.

Around it

The song was first performed on the fan-con tour Mono before its release, and the album introduction states that Jaehyun handed his fans the lyric in his own handwriting there. The same text lists J, ‘Unconditional’, ‘Horizon’ and ‘Forever Only’ among his solo releases.

The music video went up on the official SMTOWN channel on the day of release.
