The record
BEAUTIFUL CHAOS is KATSEYE’s second mini album, released on 27 June 2025 with five tracks. The title track is ‘Gameboy’ and the pre-release single is ‘Gnarly’.
The album introduction describes the five tracks as moving between hyperpop, dance pop, contemporary R&B and electronic pop, and the title track as a dance pop track that sets a mumbaton rhythm against a retro video-game sound.
Reviews
Rolling Stone Philippines’ Adrian Jade Francisco wrote on 23 July 2025 that “Across five tracks, Beautiful Chaos’ genre is a moving target.” The piece reads the mini album as expanding the foundations of the debut SIS (Soft Is Strong) with more dynamic sounds, and goes through the record song by song.
Among the tracks
The pre-release single ‘Gnarly’ was written by the hyperpop artist Alice Longyu Gao. Of it, Rolling Stone Philippines wrote: “Right out of the gate, the lyrics throw you off with a tongue-in-cheek take on modern culture’s obsession with buzzwords.”
Of the second track, the same outlet wrote that “‘Gabriela’ adds a Latin R&B flair to the girl group’s catalog” and that “The track is infectious and gives Manon Bannerman and Lara Raj’s vocals more airtime.”
The title track is what the review spends longest on. “It maintains the most consistent structure in Beautiful Chaos, kicking the door open from verse to chorus with 8-bit sound effects and hooks that remain stuck in your ear,” it says of ‘Gameboy’, and goes on: “Far from a ‘game over,’ it makes the most of its three minutes, delivering a surge instead of just teasing to justify its place in the five-track EP.”
Numbers
Star News reported that the mini album entered the Billboard 200 at number four on the chart dated 12 July 2025, then held the chart for three weeks running at 15 (19 July) and 24 (26 July). By the same report, the track ‘Gabriela’ reached number 87 on the Billboard Hot 100 dated 12 July 2025, the group’s highest placing at the time, and ‘Gnarly’ sat at 96 on both the Billboard Global 200 and Global Excl. US that week.
The record stayed on the chart long after that. Topstar News reported it at number 52 on the Billboard 200 dated 28 February 2026, and seventh among the physical albums that sold most in the United States in 2025 in Luminate’s annual report. Ten Asia reported a 53rd consecutive week on the chart dated 11 July 2026, and wrote that no girl group’s album had charted on the Billboard 200 for a full year since The Pussycat Dolls’ PCD in 2005. On the chart dated 29 August 2026 the record rose 29 places to number 92, in its 60th consecutive week, Star News reported.
