MOVE-ing

The record

MOVE-ing is the repackage of Taemin’s second full-length album MOVE, released on 10 December 2017 with thirteen tracks led by ‘낮과 밤 (Day and Night)’. It came less than two months after the original.

The album introduction by SM ENTERTAINMENT, carried on Bugs, says the record adds four songs to the nine of the second album for a total of thirteen. The four are the title track ‘낮과 밤 (Day and Night)’, the ballad ‘눈꽃 (Snow Flower)’, a Korean version of a song he had released in Japan, and a rearranged version of a song from his first full-length album Press It. The same introduction credits Taemin with writing and composing on the title track. The music video went up on the SMTOWN channel on 8 December 2017, two days before the release.

Reviews

Idology (아이돌로지) covered the repackage in ‘1st Listen’, its 12 January 2018 column on the records of early December 2017. Mimyo wrote of the title track that “‘낮과 밤’ is a song with an acrid atmosphere, and the melody is good to hear in both its flow and its breathing”, and picked out one thing in its make: “The sudden leap in the bridge, and the venom that comes stabbing out in places you do not expect, are handsome too.”

The note spends longer on the new ballad ‘눈꽃 (Snow Flower)’. He wrote that “‘눈꽃’, a fine ballad that at a glance seems unrelated to the album, seems close to a straight ballad and yet has a delicacy and a fantastical touch, so that it is decent to listen to and also sticks to the album’s context”. What the outlet wrote about the original MOVE belongs to a column two months earlier, and that is carried on the page for MOVE.

Among the tracks

Of the four new songs, two were called out by name: the title track and ‘눈꽃 (Snow Flower)’. The other two revisit material that already existed — the Korean version of a song Taemin had released in Japan first, and a rearranged version of the closing song from his 2016 full-length album. The nine songs carried over from the original include the title track ‘MOVE’ and ‘Heart Stop’, which features Red Velvet’s Seulgi.

Afterwards

Taemin’s third full-length album begins on 4 August 2020 with the prologue single Never Gonna Dance Again : Prologue.
