Concept
The album introduction says this eighth mini album carries seven songs, among them the title song 'Vision Wings' in Chinese and English versions, and that each song takes as its keyword one of six Chinese words that sound alike but differ in meaning: 鸢 (kite), 源 (source), 圆 (wholeness), 元 (beginning), 愿 (wish) and 园 (paradise). The same text introduces the title song as a hip-hop production on a jungle beat joined by the melody of the guzheng, a traditional Chinese zither, singing of unshaken belief and a flight past every limit through the kite, which soars highest even in a storm.

The record

Vision Wings is WayV’s eighth mini album, released on 10 August 2026. It followed the seventh mini album BIG BANDS of July 2025 and the winter special album 白色定格 (Eternal White) of December that year. It carries seven tracks led by the title track ‘鸢 (Vision Wings)’, and the closing track is the title track’s English version.

The album introduction SM Entertainment published on Bugs explains that each song takes as its keyword one of six Chinese words that sound alike but differ in meaning. The same text introduces the title track as a song in which the melody of the guzheng, a traditional Chinese string instrument, meets hip-hop production built on a jungle beat. The credits list 潘彦廷 (YTP) on the title track’s Chinese lyrics, and LDN Noise, Cryptic, Adrian McKinnon and Justin Starling on its composition.

Reviews

Idology’s Quibbie covered the record in the weekly short reviews of 17 August 2026. He wrote that a lofty “Chinese style” spirit works as a device that recalls the grand ambition of the group’s early days within an ensemble that has grown noticeably softer since the line-up was reshaped, and that “the title track ‘鸢 (Vision Wings)’, where this direction is most condensed, could well become the face that represents WayV’s past, present and future”.

Among the tracks

Quibbie described the title track as a song that weaves “a track in which guzheng melody, jungle breaks and a beat with a faint future-bass texture are dizzyingly mixed” together with a delicate melody. Its English version, ‘Vision Wings (English Ver.)’, shares the original’s composition and arrangement, with English lyrics by Adrian McKinnon, Justin Starling and LDN Noise.

Numbers

In its release week, week 33 of 2026 (9 to 15 August), the record reached number one on the Circle Chart weekly album chart. The title track’s English version entered the Circle Chart weekly digital chart at number 149 that same week, and the title track reached number 24 on Billboard’s China TME UNI Chart dated 22 August.

Herald Muse reported that the group’s third concert tour, 2026 WayV CONCERT TOUR [BORN THIS Way], would open at KBS Arena in Seoul on 12 and 13 September and go on to cities across Asia. The record’s release and concept are set out in WayV’s eighth mini album Vision Wings.
