Fall In Love

The record

Fall In Love is a duet single by Taeyang and the Japanese singer Thelma Aoyama, released online on 27 January 2010. It carries ‘Fall In Love’ and ‘Believe’ with an instrumental of each. The album introduction on Bugs, written by YG Entertainment, states that Aoyama’s second single of 2008, ‘そばにいるね (Soba ni Iru ne)’, was downloaded 8.9 million times and entered the Guinness records as the best-selling digital single in Japan. The same introduction calls this the first duet Taeyang had sung with a woman since his debut, and announced that the two had finished shooting the music video earlier that month and that a single CD carrying both songs and their instrumentals would follow on 11 February.

Reviews

Jung Dong-gyun reviewed the single for IZM in its March 2010 issue. The review calls ‘Fall in love’ a track that drew attention before release because it was the first duet Taeyang had sung with a woman since his debut, and says it renders the moment of falling in love in a dynamic sound. On the arrangement it notes a dreamlike air, as though one were listening to the soundtrack of an animated film, and then adds that above all it carries the strong dance scent particular to J-pop. Of the two voices together, it finds the duet’s full and emotional singing enough to show a passionate tenderness.

Among the tracks

IZM names two songs. The title track, ‘Fall In Love’, is the one it marks as its recommendation in the tracklist, and every sentence above is written about it. The second song, ‘Believe’, is a ballad: Jung Dong-gyun writes that with a sweet piano line and a warm melody it draws the listener in. Tracks three and four are the same two songs with the singing taken out.
