The record

Ode to Love is NCT WISH’s first full-length album, released on 20 April 2026 with ten tracks. The title track shares the record’s name.

The album introduction on Bugs, written by SM Entertainment, describes the title track as a New UK garage dance pop track that reworks the humming motif from The Cranberries’ ‘Ode To My Family’. The same page notes that the preceding mini album COLOR was the group’s second million seller.

Reviews

Kwibi of Idology (아이돌로지) filed a short note in the outlet’s ‘Weekly’ on 27 April 2026, a week after release, then a review of the album alone on 12 May. In the weekly page he wrote that “over tracks and melodies that are pop-facing yet never easy, a narrative that is warm yet not at all naive runs closely on”, and called it “an album that renews, in several respects, the ‘neo’ of NCT and of the SMP beyond it”.

In the longer review Kwibi set the album inside the fresh boy-group pop his label has built up over decades. “It rests on the essence of the bright boy-group pop SM has accumulated over some thirty years, but draws a feeling that is unusually delicate and tender rather than energetic, and so aims elsewhere,” he wrote, and went on: “it keeps its identity as NCT, and finds the grain of ‘neo’ only it can find.” He summed the record up as “an album that makes a small crack in the solid legacy of the company and the parent group and puts out a shoot of their own, holding a vivid moment of awakening”.

Park Seung-min of IZM wrote on 23 May that “the first studio album, shaped in the course of activity across Korea and Japan, answers expectations amply”. Of the way the title track quotes The Cranberries he wrote that it “slips the interpolated line into the opening and then hides it behind a chorus full of freshness, avoiding the obvious approach while keeping the familiarity a known melody gives”, and called the song “a fine easy-listening number that keeps the group’s colour while dissolving a trend into it”. Of the album as a whole he wrote: “a steadiness completed by variation that never overreaches.”

Billboard put the album’s ‘Sticky’ on its staff list of the 25 best K-pop songs of 2026 so far, published on 15 July 2026. The entry, credited to Billboard Korea, reads: “A nylon-string guitar sketches the riff like a breeze off the water, while the low end moves with quiet weight beneath it. ‘Sticky’ lives in the friction between those two textures.”

Among the tracks

‘Sticky’ is the song Kwibi and Billboard wrote about at greatest length. Kwibi called it “the single strangest song across the recent work of every NCT unit, its tension crossing between an unhurried bossa nova and a hip-hop wound tight”. Billboard Korea wrote that “in the breakdown, the track bends somewhere stranger, exposing a mechanical glint beneath the summer gloss”, and that “that is where the sweetness stops being simple, turning ‘Sticky’ into one of the more experimental releases in mainstream K-pop”.

‘Crush’ is the track Kwibi named the album’s best. He wrote that it is “a song worth calling the album’s best track, condensing the dramatically sweeping development and the group’s bright melancholy into a metaphor of love in the sunshower”. Park pointed at the same song, noting that it places a kick drum on every beat to match the lyric about a quickening heart before opening into a bright chorus.

Kwibi read three hip-hop tracks together. ‘Sticky’ moves playfully between bossa-nova guitar and a hip-hop beat, he wrote, ‘Street (2AM)’ fills its soundscape mainly with live sessions on guitar and bass, and ‘Glow Up’ uses the touch of the piano’s lowest register like a rhythm section — “a sound texture that looks handled in this way creates a warm temperature that is neither hot nor cold”. Park heard the lyrical rock of Coldplay in the closing track ‘Voyage’ and wrote that “the idiom borrowed to place a firm full stop ties off the growth narrative in a way that is familiar and yet natural”.
