The record

Rich Man is aespa’s sixth mini-album, released on 5 September 2025 with six tracks and ‘Rich Man’ as its title track.

SM Entertainment’s album introduction describes the title track as a dance number led by an electric guitar sound, with lyrics about trusting and valuing oneself. The same text says the six songs range across hip-hop dance on ‘Drift’, R&B on ‘Count On Me’ and pop on ‘Angel #48’.

The music video went up on the official SMTOWN channel the same day.

What the title means

The members explained the title themselves in an interview with NME days before the release. “What makes the song very special is its message,” Karina said. “It’s not about material wealth, but about self-confidence and believing in yourself. So the opening line says look for someone who can do everything for you – but that’s you. So, I’m already a rich man because I trust and love myself.”

In the same interview Giselle spoke about the trailer for the video. “We all really liked the fact that we didn’t portray the meaning of ‘Rich Man’ literally through money or through like luxury, and it was portrayed more creatively,” she said, describing it as closer to “[It was more about being] happy and confident with yourself, rich in a mindful way.” Ningning, on the members speaking their own first languages in the trailer, said: “Because I was speaking the language that I speak the best, I was really able to be true to myself.”

Karina also spoke about the rock element in the sound. “What’s special about ‘Rich Man’ [being a rock-inspired song] is that it makes your heart beat and it gives you that electric energy,” she said, “and that’s what we really like and found very special – especially when you’re even on stage, when you’re performing with a band.” The same piece reports that four songs from the mini-album, this one among them, had already been performed at three sold-out shows at Seoul’s KSPO Dome days before the release.

Around it

The title track reached a festival stage abroad the following summer. The setlist in the story on the group’s Lollapalooza Chicago set carries both ‘Rich Man’ and the B-side ‘To The Girls’.
