The record
SYNK : PARALLEL LINE is a special digital single aespa released on 9 October 2024. It carries four tracks, each of them a solo song by one member. It sits between the first full-length album Armageddon, out in May of that year, and the mini-album Whiplash of 21 October.
SM Entertainment’s album introduction says the record collects the four solo songs performed at the group’s second concert, and that every member took part in writing or composing. The same text describes Karina’s ‘UP’ as hip-hop dance, Giselle’s ‘Dopamine’ as R&B, Ningning’s ‘Bored!’ as R&B dance and Winter’s ‘Spark’ as a song built on an EDM sound.
The record has no music video. The upload lists of both the aespa channel and SMTOWN were read in full to confirm it.
Among the tracks
‘UP (KARINA Solo)’ was first performed four months before the release, at the group’s second solo concert in June 2024. SM Entertainment’s newsroom says Karina wrote its lyrics on her own.
The other three came out of the same show. The album introduction describes Giselle’s ‘Dopamine’ and Ningning’s ‘Bored!’ as R&B and R&B dance, and Winter’s ‘Spark’ as a song built on an EDM sound. All four reached streaming as recordings only after they had been performed on a concert stage rather than released on a group record.
Numbers
SM Entertainment’s newsroom reported that ‘UP’ went to number one on the Melon daily chart published on 12 October 2024, and that it was the first time the group had topped it in the 40 days since ‘Supernova’.
The song stayed in the group’s live repertoire. ‘UP’ was one of the two solo songs Karina performed at Waterbomb Seoul in July 2026, a set covered in a separate story.
