The song

‘웨딩드레스 (Wedding Dress)’ is the second digital single Taeyang released, on 13 November 2009. The album introduction on Bugs, written by YG Entertainment, says that where ‘Where U At’ had gone out with no broadcast or promotion planned at all, televised promotion would run from this song to the end of the year. By that account the song is a slow R&B number written by Taeyang with Teddy, YG’s main producer, and the lyric belongs to a man who has carried a love quietly for a long time and now watches her leave for another. The introduction marks his taking a writing credit on both singles in a row as the change worth watching, and announced that the stage, choreographed with dancers from abroad, would be shown for the first time on SBS Inkigayo on 15 November.

Reviews

Hong Hyeok-ui reviewed the single for IZM in its December 2009 issue. The review finds that the sound that builds the song’s image has turned plainer, and that where the first solo release owed a good deal of its groundwork to electronica, on ‘Wedding Dress’ a slight piano line stands in its place. On what is underneath, it writes that the outside has been sensibly remodelled but the frame inside holds to contemporary R&B. It sets that change beside the group’s own direction: with BIGBANG’s music turning toward synth-pop, the share of R&B that has narrowed there is being assigned wholesale to Taeyang.

After it

This song and ‘Where U At’, a month before it, were both carried again on his first full-length album, Solar, the following year. The earlier single’s own album introduction had presented the run of two releases as a promotion strategy in itself and called ‘Where U At’ the opening of the full-length album still to come — the album being Solar.
