The song

‘Love Hangover’ is a single Jennie released on 31 January 2025 with the American singer Dominic Fike. Electronic Times reported that it was trailed from her first album, Ruby, which came on 7 March that year. On the album it is the eighth track, and it was the second song released ahead of it, after Mantra.

Reviews

IZM’s Son Min-hyun reviewed the song ten days after release. It eases off into alternative R&B and rides the current trend with poise, he wrote, and: where ‘Mantra’ is centred on its confident message, this song’s strength is the variety of its arrangement and melody. Of the shape of the track: once the opening, dizzy with the hangover of love, has passed, a bright chorus turns it again, and Dominic Fike’s rap breaks in alongside an acoustic sound. His review closes on the record’s own image — read from several angles the gem gives different feelings, but the universality of its beauty is secured.

Clash’s Maria Letícia L. Gomes gave the song its own passage in her Ruby review: “A smooth, intimate track, ‘Love Hangover (feat. Dominic Fike)’ brings out Jennie’s most R&B-influenced and organic vocal delivery yet.” She adds that “Dominic Fike’s influence is evident in the mellow, guitar-driven production, which gives the song a breezy, late-night-drive feel”, and that “It’s a song that grows on you, revealing more depth with each listen.”

NME’s Crystal Bell wrote in her review of the album that “The neo-soul flourishes of ‘Love Hangover’, featuring a smooth assist from Dominic Fike, blend soulful intimacy with a laid-back groove.”
