Who is Jennie

Jennie (제니) is a member of BLACKPINK, which debuted on 8 August 2016 with the single album SQUARE ONE. Sports Seoul reported in March 2025 that, appearing on the YouTube channel Yojeong Jaehyeong, Jennie said she had come back from studying in New Zealand to begin training at YG Entertainment. According to the same report, her trainee years lasted six years, and looking back she said, “I was determined to do it no matter what.”

The first solo record by a member

The first record a BLACKPINK member released under her own name was Jennie’s single ‘SOLO’, on 12 November 2018. YG Entertainment’s album notes said it carried a different mood from the music she had made with BLACKPINK. On 6 October 2023 she gave an official release, as the special single You & Me, to an unreleased song she had been singing on the BORN PINK world tour.

OA and Columbia Records

At the end of December 2023 she announced OA — also written ODD ATELIER — as the company handling her solo career, writing that she was starting her solo journey with a company she had established herself; her group activities stayed with YG Entertainment. In September 2024 Soompi reported that OA had announced her solo deal with Columbia Records. The first song after that deal was ‘Mantra’ on 11 October 2024, and NME reported that it gave her a solo entry on the Billboard Hot 100.

The first album, Ruby

Her first solo full-length album, Ruby, was released on 7 March 2025 with fifteen tracks led by ‘like JENNIE’. Ahead of it came ‘Love Hangover’ with Dominic Fike on 31 January and ‘ExtraL’ with Doechii on 21 February, and Munhwa Ilbo reported that Jennie produced the album herself. It entered the Billboard 200 at number seven. According to Sports Seoul, she marked the release with solo shows under the name The Ruby Experience in Los Angeles, New York and Seoul.

That same month she received the Global Force Award at Billboard Women in Music, and in January 2026 she took four awards at the 40th Golden Disc Awards, among them the first Artist of the Year prize the ceremony has given. On 6 March 2026 Ruby (The Complete Collection) followed, twenty-one tracks with remixes and Just JENNIE versions added.

What to listen to now

‘Less than a Lover’, released on 24 July 2026, is a song Jennie co-wrote and helped direct the video for. Soompi reported it at number one on iTunes Top Songs charts in at least 27 regions. It was then gathered with ‘FALLEN ANGEL’ and ‘HEAVEN’ on the digital EP Fallen Angel, released on 28 August 2026, and a six-track physical EP is announced for 30 October. How the single became an EP is set out in the story on Fallen Angel.

On 1 September adidas Originals released its first collaboration collection with her, adidas Originals by JENNIE, worldwide. Herald Business reported that she took part in the design herself (the story on the collection). Her official videos are on her own channel and her Vevo channel.
