The record
Fallen Angel is a digital EP that Jennie released at 1 p.m. on 28 August 2026. Sports Kyunghyang reported that the audio and music video of the digital edition went out that day on music services and the official YouTube channel, and that it holds three songs: the title track ‘FALLEN ANGEL’, ‘HEAVEN’ and ‘Less than a Lover’. Bugs gives the record’s label as Columbia Records, under exclusive licence from OA ENTERTAINMENT.
The album introduction on Bugs presents the EP as a record of Jennie’s musical identity. It draws a relationship set against the season of summer and a change through which Jennie finds a self within it. The same text says the record traces the arc of feelings Jennie felt first-hand, from a heart searching for a refuge to the flutter of a blurred line and a wistful pull, and that its sound moves between acoustic pop, Afrobeats and more.
The EP is coming out on physical formats as well. Sports Kyunghyang reported in the same article that the physical EP was due on 30 October with six songs: the three of the digital edition plus ‘sweettooth’, ‘lockitdown’ and ‘Face’. According to that article Jennie picked those three personally for fans, and they appear only on the physical EP. The Korea Herald had reported the same line-up on 24 August.
Reviews
Idology (아이돌로지) carried the EP on 30 August 2026, two days after release, in its weekly column on new releases for the fourth week of August. The writer Yemi described it as “an EP holding an attempt to widen the artist’s own wavelength in a different direction” after the first full album Ruby. The note goes on: “showing slightly more intimate feelings while still not letting go of the signature visual staging and layering of meaning, the dense result is a pleasure.” The same note was reprinted in the site’s monthly column on 15 September.
Among the tracks
Bugs credits the lyrics and music of the title track ‘FALLEN ANGEL’ to Jennie, Deb Never, Jelli, Daniel Aged, Saya Gray and Romil Hemnani, with Deb Never, Daniel Aged and Romil Hemnani arranging. Sports Kyunghyang reported that the music video released with it shows the inner self behind a glamorous surface, and the sense of freedom in facing a newly found identity.
The third song, ‘Less than a Lover’, came out a month before the EP. Jennie released it first as a single on 24 July 2026. Quibbie of Idology pointed to its “unhurried humming” on 27 July, in the column on that week’s new releases. IZM’s Han Seong-hyeon read it in a single review on 6 August as a song of “a relaxed rhythm, half bedroom pop and half holiday resort”. Unlike earlier work that brought in guests, the review found the song’s meaning in “the microphone held alone and the name boldly carved into the credits”. Longer passages of both reviews are on the single’s page.
Numbers
As a digital EP the record did not appear on Circle Chart’s album chart up to week 39 of 2026. The title track ‘FALLEN ANGEL’ charted on the digital chart instead: it entered at 101st in the release week, week 35 of 2026, and rose to 42nd the following week, week 36 (30 August to 5 September). ‘HEAVEN’ was 163rd that week.
On Billboard, ‘FALLEN ANGEL’ first appeared on the chart dated 12 September 2026, at 117th on the Global 200 and 57th on the Global Excl. U.S. ‘HEAVEN’ was 182nd on the Global Excl. U.S. the same day.
After it
Within a week of the EP, two other members of BLACKPINK released solo songs. Why the three releases came from three different companies is set out in the story on BLACKPINK’s three solo releases, and how a single became an EP in the story written before Fallen Angel came out.
