Who is Hendery?
Hendery comes from Macau and is a member of WayV (웨이션브이). HK01 in Hong Kong, introducing the new members of SM Rookies on 17 July 2018, wrote that he would be the first person from Macau to debut under SM Entertainment. The birthday that piece gives is 28 September 1999, and his debut came with the group on 17 January of the following year.
Hendery the lyricist
His first lyric credits came in his debut year. On the second mini album, Take Over The Moon, in October 2019, he and Yangyang are credited on the Chinese lyrics of the unit songs ‘King of Hearts’ and ‘We go nanana’, and according to SM Entertainment’s album notes the two of them also made the rap for ‘We go nanana’.
Xportsnews reported on 3 June 2020 that he had written lyrics with Yangyang for the first full-length album, Awaken The World. By the label’s credits, he wrote ‘Only Human’ and ‘Electric Hearts’ with Yangyang and ‘Stand By Me’ with the lyricist Wang Yu-hsin (王語昕), and the rap on ‘Stand By Me’ is his. The label described the song as expressing the members’ own friendship through the line ‘Culture From WayV’. Six years later, after the group’s New York show in August 2026, he picked it as the song that means most to him, telling amNewYork it was for its message of staying beside someone through difficult moments.
On 14 September 2021, ‘WuKong’ went up on WayV’s official YouTube channel as part of its Play V series. The video’s description credits Hendery as the performer and lyricist and as co-composer with Kun, who also arranged, recorded and mixed the track.
He has also taken part in NCT’s group albums. On NCT RESONANCE Pt. 2 in 2020 he sang ‘Raise The Roof’, ‘All About You’, ‘Misfit’ and ‘Work It’; on Universe in 2021 ‘OK!’, ‘Birthday Party’ and ‘Vroom’, and he wrote rap lyrics with other members for that album’s title track, ‘Beautiful’; on Golden Age in 2023 he was on ‘PADO’ and ‘Alley Oop’.
On stage, and in his own words
In a May 2020 interview with ELLE Korea, Hendery named Take Off as his favourite song: “We shot the music video in Ukraine, and maybe because we all had such a happy time, it lifts my mood every time I hear it.” The stage he remembered most was the group’s Korean debut on MBC MUSIC’s Show Champion in 2019: “I couldn’t believe we were performing a Chinese song on a Korean stage.”
In December 2021 he appeared on the Mnet and Discovery Channel Korea reality show 우리 식구 됐어요 (Uri Sikgu Dwaesseoyo, “we’ve become family”) with the singer Yubin, Xiaojun and Yangyang. Meeting USA TODAY for the second full-length album, On My Youth, in November 2023, he looked back on his younger self, as the title track’s lyrics do: “I also say I still thank you to the younger Hendery.” And of the fandom WayZenNi he told amNewYork in August 2026: “Without them, to be honest, we are nothing.”
On WayV’s third concert tour, which opened at KBS Arena in Seoul in September 2026, Hendery gave a solo performance for the first time. According to Xportsnews his solo stage was ‘Love Talk’, and with Yangyang he performed the unit stage ‘Count It’.
Hong Kong, and Cantonese
Interviewing WayV around their fan meeting in Hong Kong on 2 June 2023, HK01 reported that Hendery and Xiaojun had taught the other members Cantonese. Hendery said there that he had kept seeing people on social media asking the group to come and perform in Hong Kong, and that this time they really had.
His first solo song is in Cantonese too. Topstarnews reported on 20 September 2026 that Hendery had released his first solo track with the Cantonese single ‘Thursday’ (礼拜四), which came out on 17 September. According to the track information SM Entertainment supplied to YouTube, the lyrics are by Yuehua Lin and the music by Ziwei Zheng, and the producer is Chung Huang.
