She debuted with them on 2 May 2018 with the first mini album I am and its title track ‘LATATA’, under the name the group carried then, (G)I-DLE. The group’s Japanese official profile gives her birth date as 23 September 1999.
She has written alongside the group work. Maeil Ilbo reported that she took lyric and composition credits on i-dle songs including ‘i’M THE TREND’ and ‘All Night’.
She debuted as a soloist at 6 p.m. KST on 23 April 2024 with the mini album YUQ1, six years after the group’s debut. As Maeil Ilbo explained, the album’s name writes the I of her own name as the figure 1, and Yuqi is credited as a writer and composer on five of its seven tracks, the title track ‘FREAK’ among them. The rapper pH-1 features on ‘Drink It Up (Feat. pH-1)’, the singer Lexie Liu on ‘On Clap (Feat. Lexie Liu)’, and her groupmate Minnie on ‘Everytime (With MINNIE ((G)I-DLE))’.
Herald Muse reported in September 2025 that YUQ1 had passed half a million copies, and that the digital single ‘Radio (Dum-Dum)’ of March 2025 was certified platinum by QQ Music. The same report credits her as a producer on ‘자유롭게 날아 (Feat. 우기 (YUQI))’ (Jayuropge Nara, a title that reads as “fly freely”) by NOWZ, a younger group at her agency, and dates her single Motivation to 6 p.m. KST on 16 September 2025.
The records continued on the Chinese-language charts. Star Today reported that, as of 27 March 2026, ‘FREAK’ had spent 100 consecutive weeks on Tencent Music’s Korea chart, and MHN Sports reported in the same month that Yuqi had been named one of Tencent Music Chart’s Women of the Year in Music 2026.
