New Woman

The song

‘New Woman’ is a single Lisa released on 15 August 2024 with the Spanish singer Rosalía. Newsis reported that Max Martin and Ilya Salmanzadeh produced it and that Dave Meyers directed the music video in Los Angeles. In the same report the distributor, Sony Music Entertainment Korea, described the song as Lisa’s vocal and rap set against Rosalía’s voice and a Y2K style. It was carried again as the fifth track of her first album, Alter Ego, the following February.

Reviews

Reviewing Alter Ego for NME, Crystal Bell put this song ahead of everything else on the record: “‘New Woman’, an intoxicating collaboration with Rosalía, is the album’s standout moment – a sleek, pulsating celebration of reinvention. The duo trade verses like two women stepping into their power, shedding the past to embrace their evolved, untouchable selves.” The same review adds that the accompanying video, directed by Dave Meyers, “only amplifies the song’s allure”.

Writing about the album for Rolling Stone, Maura Johnston introduced the song as the place of Kiki, the “Y2Cute” pop character among the five the album builds, and called it “the bubbly Rosalía collab”.

Around it

The single was the second Lisa released after partnering with RCA Records in April 2024. Like Rockstar before it, it came out on its own well before the album, and both songs were carried on Alter Ego the following February. Newsis reported that Lisa headlined the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park, New York in September 2024 and performed ‘ROCKSTAR’, ‘NEW WOMAN’, ‘Lalisa’ and ‘Money’ in turn.
