The song
‘Born Again’ is a single Lisa released on 6 February 2025 with the rapper Doja Cat and the British singer RAYE. Bridge Economy described it as a dynamic, high-energy pop track and reported that Bardia Zeinali, who has worked with pop stars around the world, directed the music video. Three weeks later it opened her first album, Alter Ego.
Reviews
IZM’s Jung Ki-yeop reviewed the song two weeks after release. Taken on its own, he wrote, it is a good disco pop song carried by an excellent, appealing bass slap, and the composer Andrew Wells — whose credits include Meghan Trainor’s ‘No excuses’ and Jason Mraz’s ‘Have it all’ — marshals every instrument and lets his talent run. The whole writing team, RAYE and Doja Cat included, he added, was excellent.
Reviewing Alter Ego for NME, Crystal Bell counted the song among the places where the album’s pairings work: “She teams up with Doja Cat and RAYE for ‘Born Again’, a sultry disco kiss-off to an ex that pulses with a late-night groove and finds Lisa flexing her nimble vocals.”
Writing about the album for Rolling Stone, Maura Johnston said the track blends “the sort of light blasphemy that would make Madonna proud” with “a modern take on Latin freestyle”, the three artists “fully leaning into the lyrics’ sauciness as a springy, amped-up bassline bounds beneath them”.
Around it
The song closed the run of singles Lisa began in June 2024 with Rockstar and continued with New Woman and Moonlit Floor (Kiss Me). All four were carried on Alter Ego on 28 February 2025. Bridge Economy reported that Lisa announced the album alongside this single, and that she planned to present it through five characters, each with a personality of its own.
