LE SSERAFIM was not her first group. Seoul Shinmun reported that IZ*ONE debuted on 29 October 2018 with a showcase for the first album COLOR*IZ at the Olympic Hall in Songpa-gu, Seoul, performing the debut title track ‘La Vie en Rose’ for the first time, and the same report names Kim Chaewon among the twelve members.
She was described as the leader before the group had debuted. Hankook Ilbo reported on 7 April 2022 that Kim Chaewon, of IZ*ONE, had become the leader of LE SSERAFIM. SOURCE MUSIC had been introducing one member a day since 4 April, starting with Sakura, and her photos and video went up at midnight on 7 April on the official social accounts and the HYBE LABELS YouTube channel.
On 2 May 2022 the media showcase for the debut album FEARLESS was held at Jangchung Arena in Jung-gu, Seoul. Kim Chaewon opened her remarks there by saying it was her first official appearance in about a year, that she was nervous, and that the training of the months before had shown her new sides of herself. FEARLESS, out the same day, is LE SSERAFIM’s first mini album.
