Who is Jimin?
Jimin is a member of BTS, which debuted with all seven members on 13 June 2013. The official site gives his birthday as 13 October 1995.
From the first singles to FACE
The first songs under his own name were one-song singles: ‘Promise’ on 31 December 2018 and ‘Christmas Love’ on 24 December 2020, whose video went up on the BANGTANTV channel the same day.
His first solo mini album, FACE, came out on 24 March 2023 with six songs, led by ‘Like Crazy’. The album notes say it is Jimin’s first official solo album, that it holds what he felt through the COVID-19 pandemic, and that the title means he faced himself. ‘Set Me Free Pt.2’ came out a week ahead, on 17 March. NME gave the album four stars out of five on the day of release. On 28 December that year Billboard named ‘Like Crazy’ second in its 25 best K-pop songs of 2023, noting that the song had debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
‘Closer Than This’ and MUSE
The album notes introduce ‘Closer Than This’, the single he released on 22 December 2023, as a fan song whose lyrics carry his feelings for the fandom, ARMY. It is an easy-listening song that sets a hip-hop rhythm over a quiet beat, with a choir joining in the second half, and it returned the next year as the last track of his second mini album.
That album, MUSE, came out on 19 July 2024 with seven songs, led by ‘Who’. The album notes say it gathers seven songs around love, and that where FACE was a process of facing himself, this is a journey in search of inspiration. The third track, ‘Smeraldo Garden Marching Band’, came out ahead of it on 28 June. Five days after release Billboard’s Jeff Benjamin wrote that the album takes in everything from R&B grooves and light hip-hop to Latin and Afrobeat colours, and picked out ‘Slow Dance’, sung with Sofia Carson, as the duet at its centre.
On tour
When the ARIRANG world tour opened in Goyang on 9 April 2026, he told The Korea Times that the group had “put a lot more work into the visuals so audiences can enjoy it with their eyes as well”.
Military service
His military service began in December 2023, alongside Jung Kook. Star News reported that the two served in the 5th Division artillery brigade, that Jimin served as a cook, and that they were discharged together in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi Province on 11 June 2025.
What to watch now
The solo work runs from FACE through ‘Closer Than This’ to MUSE, and the album notes read the two mini albums as one line, from facing himself to looking for inspiration. The title-track music videos are on the HYBE LABELS channel, and the group’s 13 years and the ARIRANG tour are on the BTS hub.
