Who is Suga?
Suga is a member of BTS, which debuted with all seven members on 13 June 2013. The official site gives his birthday as 9 March 1993.
The Agust D trilogy
His solo work came out under the name Agust D. The first record, Agust D, came out on 16 August 2016 with ten tracks, and Idology’s Park Hee-a took it up that December. NME reported on 5 April 2023 that it had been released in full on streaming services. The second, D-2, came out on 22 May 2020 with ten tracks.
D-DAY came out on 21 April 2023 with ten tracks. The album notes carried on Bugs say it completes a trilogy that runs from Agust D through D-2, holds ten hip-hop songs and takes liberation as its subject. The title track is ‘Haegeum’, and the notes name ‘People Pt.2’, with IU, as its pre-release. Idology’s Erin wrote that, as the last of the trilogy, the record shows continuity with the earlier work through ‘Haegeum’ while carrying far more ease overall than its predecessors, and Billboard placed it eighth on its list of the 25 best K-pop albums of 2023. The Korea Herald, too, recorded in its piece on the group’s first 13 years that he released D-Day in 2023.
Producer on the group’s songs
His name is in the group’s credits as a producer too. According to BIGHIT MUSIC’s album notes he worked on ‘Yet To Come’, the title track of the 2022 anthology album Proof, with RM and j-hope; and ‘Take Two’, released on 9 June 2023 for the tenth anniversary, was produced by him, with RM and j-hope on the writing. In 2026 he produced the digital single ‘Come Over’, released on 12 June, with Cirkut and Ammo, and he is named alongside RM and j-hope in the credits of NORMAL, which reissued a song from the fifth album ARIRANG.
In the Q&A Billboard Korea carried on the day ARIRANG was released, he described “BTS 2.0”, the name the members gave this era, as “a new beginning”.
Military service
His military service began in September 2023 as a social service worker. Hankook Ilbo reported that he would be released on 21 June 2025, and that this would complete military service for all seven members.
What to watch now
Heard as Agust D, D-2 and D-DAY, the solo work follows the trilogy order the album notes describe. The group songs he produced are ‘Take Two’ and ‘Come Over’; the members’ answers on “BTS 2.0” are in the story on the release-day Q&A for ARIRANG, and the group’s 13 years are on the BTS hub.
