Who is Julie?

Julie (쥴리) is the leader and main rapper of KISS OF LIFE; that is how the group’s Japanese official site lists her role. Sports Seoul reported on 10 November 2023 that she comes from Hawaii, spent six years as a trainee at THEBLACKLABEL and had done ballet since childhood. In the same interview she said: “I got through the long trainee years by imagining myself on stage.”

A solo track made of rap

Around the debut she told CBS NoCut News why she chose S2 Entertainment: “Even though it was a new company, what mattered most was that it had a challenging plan.” Ahead of the debut mini album KISS OF LIFE, the music video for her solo track ‘Kitty Cat’ went up on the official channel on 21 June 2023. The song is rap from start to finish. “As a rapper, I thought a track that was rap all the way through would let me show my colour and my skill,” she recalled.

The leader who writes lyrics

The English version of ‘Bad News’, from the second mini album Born to be XX, is her lyric alone apart from the main keyword section kept from the Korean version. Xportsnews wrote in November 2023 that she built it around the message “We’re different, but we’re proud of it”, and that she helped direct the English recording and correct the other members’ pronunciation. On the fourth mini album 224 she is credited as a lyricist on ‘Heart of Gold’. At that album’s showcase she said, “I’m trying to raise how much I take part with every album,” and that her inspiration comes from her own experience, the members and the fans.

A voice outside the group

The Japanese official site lists her solo work as a feature on NAYEON’s ‘Magic’ and vocals on ‘SUPERPOWER (VCT24 ANTHEM)’, the anthem of Riot Games’ VALORANT tournament. Billboard introduced her as the group’s “Hawaii-born leader” in an interview published on 13 September 2024, where she said it was “really an honor” for ‘Sticky’ to get into the charts. In March 2025 she told Star News: “I’d like to try being a radio DJ. I like talking, and I’m confident I’d be good at it.”

In ‘GUESS THE NEXT ERA’, a teaser series whose first episode was released on 26 January 2026, she took the opening scene, sitting across from the actor Han Ye-ri in a counselling room. At the showcase for the single Who is she on 6 April she said: “It took ten months, and we prepared really hard, so we’re confident.” In an August interview with The Korea Herald she called the three years since debut “packed” and said she hoped the group would be remembered “not simply as the miracle of a smaller agency, but as a group that continues to create new miracles”.
