Why is ATEEZ San's 'BAD' choreography trending? From short-form video to a first Melon daily chart entry

What happened

ATEEZ released their 14th mini album, GOLDEN HOUR : Part.5, on 26 June 2026. The title track is ‘BAD’. Kyunghyang Shinmun reported that the song is built on Brazilian funk.

Etnews reported that during promotions for ‘BAD’, San’s killing part at the end of the stage — the killing part is the few seconds a Korean release is built around, the section meant to be replayed — drew a strong response and was nicknamed the ‘da jukja’ choreography (literally “let’s all die”). The same outlet reported that the moment spread through short-form platforms including Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts. ATEEZ’s official YouTube channel posted the video ‘BAD’ Choreography Demo (SAN Ver.) on 5 July 2026.

According to a Forbes report relayed by Star News, the ‘BAD’ music video passed 22 million views after its release, and the choreography San performs in the chorus was singled out as its “most replayed” section. Korea JoongAng Daily also reported that the section became the music video’s most replayed part.

The move was recreated away from the stage as well. Son Him-chan is a baseball player with the Kiwoom Heroes. Newsis reported that on 10 July 2026 he took the field and performed at the 2026 KBO Futures League All-Star Game at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul, with the Northern League’s Kiwoom side; the KBO Futures League is the secondary tier of South Korea’s professional baseball league. Korea JoongAng Daily reported that he recreated San’s move from ‘BAD’ there.

Leader Hongjoong said in a live broadcast, “San worked really hard preparing for this promotion cycle, and seeing so many people notice it makes me proud.”

SPOTV NEWS reported that ‘BAD’ entered the top 100 of the Melon daily chart on 6 July 2026, 10 days after release. Melon is South Korea’s leading music streaming service, and this was the first time ATEEZ had appeared on that chart since their debut. The same outlet reported that ‘BAD’ climbed to number 18 on the Melon daily chart on 20 July, a new high for the group. According to Edaily, ‘BAD’ placed sixth on the YouTube Music weekly chart for 17 to 23 July and took number 17 on the Melon daily chart dated 27 July.

Kyunghyang Shinmun reported that the choreography section San performs in the back half of the song spread mainly through short-form platforms. The same outlet reported that users in their 30s and 40s who are usually distant from idol content shared the videos, carrying the clip beyond the fandom. Recreations continued off stage as well, as at the Futures League All-Star Game at Jamsil Baseball Stadium.

SPOTV NEWS reported that, unlike the pattern of a song entering the chart right after a comeback and dropping off quickly, streaming volume and chart position for ‘BAD’ both rose as time passed after release.

In a written interview with Edaily, San said, “Seeing so many senior and junior artists, and the general public, following the ‘BAD’ performance was really amazing, and I felt very grateful.” He added, “The reaction I remember most is people saying they keep replaying San’s part.”
