Why is RESCENE trending? The 7th Island Day ambassador role and the Yeosu stage

What happened

Island Day is a national commemorative day set for 8 August each year. Yeosu, together with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, held the appointment ceremony for the honorary ambassadors of the 7th Island Day on 21 July 2026 at Government Complex Seoul, the central government office building in the capital. An honorary ambassador is a promotional role that Korean public bodies assign to figures who help publicise a cause or an event. Six were appointed that day: RESCENE, two other singing acts, a chef, a YouTuber and an actor. The vice-minister of the Interior and Safety, the administrative vice-mayor of Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City and the mayor of Yeosu attended.

The 7th Island Day events opened on 6 August 2026 and ran for four days to 9 August around the Yeosu World Expo site. Newspim reported that RESCENE would take the stage at the opening. The commemorative ceremony was held at 7:30 pm on the opening day at the Yeosu World Expo venue, and the singers serving as honorary ambassadors, RESCENE among them, gave congratulatory performances.

Why is it trending?

The appointment was made jointly by local and central government. Yeosu, Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety were all named as appointing bodies, and the ceremony took place at Government Complex Seoul. The occasion behind the appointment is not a regional event either, but a national commemorative day.

The role did not stay a title. RESCENE performed at the 7th Island Day commemorative ceremony that followed the appointment, and Newspim reported that the ceremony was held at 7:30 pm on 6 August at the Yeosu World Expo venue.
