Übermensch

The record

Übermensch is G-Dragon’s third full-length album, released on 25 February 2025 through Galaxy Corporation. It carries eight tracks, and The Korea Herald reported that it was his first full-length record in about 11 and a half years, after Coup d’Etat of 2013. The same outlet named ‘TOO BAD’ as the record’s main track.

The album takes its name from Friedrich Nietzsche’s idea of the ideal human, and the agency framed the title as the artist overcoming himself and returning stronger and bolder. ‘POWER’ and ‘HOME SWEET HOME’, released as singles in October and November 2024, are carried on the record.

Reviews

NME’s Rhian Daly reviewed the album on 26 February 2025. “Here, G-Dragon leans more into an upbeat pop pocket,” she wrote, “whether on the instantly infectious, funk-laced Anderson .Paak collaboration ‘Too Bad’, or on the blissful, falsetto-filled ‘IBELONGIIU’.” She began from the agency’s own framing of the record’s title, in which G-Dragon describes the Übermensch as “an individual who transcends themselves”, and later wrote that “throughout his career, G-Dragon has always commanded the attention of the biggest names in music”, pointing to the Nile Rodgers guitar solo on ‘TAKE ME’ and to ‘DRAMA’, co-written with Diane Warren.

IZM’s Son Min-hyun took the record on 11 March 2025. “The standard by which ‘Übermensch’ judges,” he wrote, “is his own logic and his own view of life.” On the record’s relation to the mini album before it he wrote: “The images of descent and fall in Kwon Ji Yong, written down to the point of quoting the Divine Comedy, have moulted into an Übermensch of re-creation and ascent, but the music of the K-pop superman who has risen through the storm has kept its solemn tenacity.” In the tracklist at the foot of the same piece the two songs he marked as recommended are ‘Home sweet home’ and ‘Gyro-drop’.

Billboard placed the album at number 20 in The 25 Best K-Pop Albums of 2025 on 18 December 2025. Jeff Benjamin, who signed the entry, wrote that ‘POWER’, ‘Home Sweet Home’ and ‘IBELONGIIU’ deliver on G-Dragon’s playful power-pop sound, while ‘Drama’ — assisted by Diane Warren — along with ‘Take Me’, ‘Gyro-Drop’ and ‘Too Bad’, featuring Anderson .Paak, all have a more mature, timeless feel.

Among the tracks

‘TOO BAD’ features Anderson .Paak. Circle Chart placed it at number one on its Digital Chart for week nine of 2025 (23 February to 1 March), the week of release, and at number one again in weeks 10 and 11.

‘HOME SWEET HOME’ features Taeyang and Daesung, and ‘DRAMA’ was co-written with Diane Warren. NME called ‘DRAMA’ a ballad reminiscent of ‘Untitled, 2014’ on which G-Dragon delivers lyrics in English, Korean, Chinese and Japanese. Nile Rodgers plays the guitar solo on ‘TAKE ME’.

Numbers

Circle Chart placed the record at number two on its weekly Album Chart for week nine of 2025, the week of release, with the separate Nemo edition at number four. On the Monthly Album Chart for February 2025 it placed fourth with 443,750 copies counted for the month, the Nemo edition eighth with 180,000. On the Yearly Album Chart for 2025 it placed 38th with 598,645 copies counted for the year, the Nemo edition 44th with 508,492.

All eight of the record’s songs were on the Digital Chart in the week of release: ‘TOO BAD’ at number one, ‘HOME SWEET HOME’ at number three, ‘TAKE ME’ at number 12, ‘POWER’ at number 13, ‘DRAMA’ at number 15, ‘IBELONGIIU’ at number 21, ‘GYRO-DROP’ at number 29 and ‘BONAMANA’ at number 35.
