From SIXTEEN to STUDIO CHOOM
Chaeryeong (채령) is a member of ITZY, the girl group signed to JYP Entertainment. Four years before the group’s debut she became known to viewers on Mnet’s 2015 audition show SIXTEEN (YTN, 21 January 2019; Hankook Ilbo, 23 January 2019).
M2’s dance channel STUDIO CHOOM chose Chaeryeong as its Artist of the Month for August 2021, and she released a solo performance video for it (Sports Kyunghyang, 10 August 2021).
A first solo photoshoot, and ‘Mine’
The April 2023 issue of Marie Claire Korea carried her first solo fashion photoshoot. Asked about her solo stage on the world tour, she said: “I thought hard because I wanted to show a charm of my own that I’d had little chance to reveal as a member of the team. I chose music I could both sing and dance to well, and tried to bring out the lines of the choreography in detail.” On her birthday that year, 5 June, the group’s official accounts posted her vocal cover of IU’s ‘Blueming’, ‘B-DAY TRACK #65 “CHAERYEONG”’ (Xportsnews).
Her first solo song, ‘Mine’, is on the January 2024 mini album BORN TO BE; its music video came out first, at midnight on 25 December 2023. OSEN reported that Chaeryeong co-wrote the lyrics and music, putting into the single word ‘Mine’ the wish that someone would tell her honestly how they feel about her, and MK Sports named collapsedone (Lee Woo-min) and SELAH as her collaborators on the track.
Her first show as host, and a solo album
The web variety show 채령이 배불렁 친구불렁 (Chaeryeongi Baebulleong Chingubulleong), whose rhyming name promises a full stomach and a full set of friends, began on the YouTube channel Merry-Go-Round on 11 June 2024 and is the first programme she hosted on her own (MK Sports, 4 June 2024). The same month, Edaily reported on 7 June, Binggrae chose Chaeryeong as the model for the 20th-anniversary campaign of its frozen yogurt bar 요맘때 (Yomamttae). In December she sang ‘21’, the first song on the soundtrack of the KBS drama Who Is She, and the group’s official channel posted the recording session as part of its self-produced content.
In an interview for the January 2026 issue of Singles she said that, given the chance, she would like to try the stage that best shows the name ‘Chaeryeong’, above all a performance in which the lines of the dance come alive (News Culture, 24 December 2025). On 18 May 2026, the day Motto came out, she previewed the group’s world tour in a word: “‘undefined!’, something that can’t be defined” (Xportsnews). Her solo song on the same mini album, Motto, is called ‘Undefined’ (The Korea Herald).
JYP Entertainment confirmed on 27 August 2026 that Chaeryeong is preparing a solo album with the aim of releasing it in November (Soompi). It would be the group’s third solo album, after Yeji’s and Yuna’s.
