Who ITZY are

ITZY (있지) is a five-piece girl group signed to JYP Entertainment. The agency’s own profile lists the members in this order: Yeji, Lia, Ryujin, Chaeryeong and Yuna.

Nocut News reported on 1 February 2019 that the group would debut on 12 February with the single IT’z Different and its title track ‘Dalla Dalla’. Five months later, on 8 July, the official fandom name MIDZY followed; the same outlet reported that the agency posted the announcement at midnight.

The first year

On 21 February 2019, ten days after the debut, ‘Dalla Dalla’ took the group’s first music-show win, on Mnet’s M Countdown. That summer ‘ICY’, from the first mini album IT’z ICY, won on Show Champion on 7 August, M Countdown on the 8th, Show! Music Core on the 10th and Inkigayo on the 11th.

The first rookie award was ‘The Female New Artist’ at the 2019 MGMA on 1 August. More followed at the Melon Music Awards at Gocheok Sky Dome on 30 November, at the 2019 MAMA at Nagoya Dome in Japan on 4 December, and at the 34th Golden Disc Awards on 4 January 2020, where the group also took a main prize in the digital category. “Thank you for all the attention and love since our debut,” the members said there. “In 2020 we’ll be an ITZY that repays that love.” After the rookie award at the 29th Seoul Music Awards on 30 January, Ryujin said that made ten in all.

The group’s first stages abroad were the showcase tour ITZY? ITZY!. It began in Jakarta on 2 November 2019 and went on to Macau, Taipei, Manila, Singapore and Bangkok; in January 2020 it moved through Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Houston and Washington, D.C., and closed on the 26th at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, New York.

Albums and tours

‘WANNABE’, the title track of the second mini album IT’z ME, released on 9 March 2020, won five music shows, and Sports Kyunghyang put the album’s first-week sales at 64,659 copies.

The first world tour, CHECKMATE, opened at the SK Handball Stadium in Seoul’s Olympic Park on 6 and 7 August 2022. It visited eight American cities from Los Angeles on 26 October and, after Jakarta in February 2023, went on to Chiba in Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Bangkok.

In Japan the group debuted officially in December 2021 with the best-of album IT’z ITZY. The first single there, ‘Voltage’, followed in April 2022, and the first Japanese full-length album, RINGO, on 18 October 2023. According to The Korea Herald it carried eleven tracks, among them the title song, three more new songs and Japanese versions of ‘SNEAKERS’ and ‘CHESHIRE’.

At the press conference for the mini album Girls Will Be Girls on 9 June 2025, Yeji said: “For our sixth anniversary I thought about what new side and message we could show. This time we prepared it so you can feel the resonance of the name ‘us’.” Lia explained that it expressed “the message ‘let’s love ourselves’ that we’ve carried since our debut — that we’re strongest when we’re together and free, without shrinking from how others see us.”

What the group is doing now

The Korea Herald reported on 21 September 2025 that all five members had renewed with the agency. The mini album TUNNEL VISION followed on 10 November 2025, and the third world tour of the same name opened with three nights at Jamsil Indoor Stadium from 13 February 2026.

The tour was first announced as twelve shows in nine regions. Melbourne, Sydney, Auckland, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Bangkok and Manila followed Seoul, and in June Macau, Taipei, London, Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt and Singapore were added. Kaohsiung, set for 27 June alone, gained a second night on the 28th, and Sports Kyunghyang reported that the Tokyo, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Macau and Taipei shows all sold out. The tour ended at Singapore Indoor Stadium on 3 October. “Thanks to the support you sent from all over the world, we finished this world tour safely,” the members said. “We’re most grateful to MIDZY for being with us at every show.”

The tour also sent an old song back up the chart. ‘THAT’S A NO NO’, a track from the 2020 second mini album, went on a reverse run after the performance first shown on this tour drew attention. According to Dailian it re-entered Melon’s daily chart at number 961 on 2 March and climbed to 157 by the 16th; the group performed it on Mnet’s M Countdown on the 19th, and on the morning of the 24th it entered the Melon TOP 100 at number 100.

The twelfth EP, Motto, released on 18 May 2026, carries one solo song by each of the five members. The Korea Herald noted that all five had been unveiled on the world tour first. The fifth official fan meeting, ‘ALL IN, MIDZY’, at Olympic Hall in Seoul on 8 and 9 August, sold out both shows.

What to watch

The group’s own YouTube channel is the natural starting point. Title-track music videos are posted on JYP Entertainment’s official channel, while the group’s channel collects its self-produced content and tour footage.
