Chenle is a member of NCT DREAM, under SM Entertainment. The South China Morning Post wrote that he was born in Shanghai in November 2001, performed on stage in China from childhood, and moved to South Korea in 2016.
He later looked back on that decision himself. According to TV Report, on KBS Kpop’s YouTube show Limousine Service in March 2024 he said the company had cast him after seeing his childhood performances, wanting strong high notes and a powerful voice. Of the move to Korea he admitted: “Having to give up my studies and my life in China and go abroad was really frightening.”
According to Munhwa Ilbo, the Chinese special album 灿 (Lucid), made with Tencent Music Entertainment (TME), was released at 12:22 p.m. KST on 5 May 2025 on Chinese music platforms including QQ Music, Kugou Music and Kuwo Music. It holds three Chinese-language songs, and the title track sings of the brilliant moment that waits once loneliness has been overcome. Billboard Korea reported that it was made by TME’s producer studio and co-produced by SM Entertainment, and that the Chinese singer Bibi Zhou features on the B-side ‘Cosmic Joke’.
Star News reported that the album topped QQ Music’s digital album sales chart on 28 April, when pre-orders opened, and again on its release day, 5 May, while the title track topped QQ Music’s Chinese music video chart. Billboard Korea wrote that he first sang the title track at a music festival in Tianjin on 2 May, then sang every track live at a solo showcase in Beijing.
At TMEA 2025, held at the Galaxy Arena in Macau on 24 August that year, he received the Breakthrough Trending Artist of the Year award. According to Slist, he said: “Every moment of promoting ‘Lucid’ was a time of joy and growth, and I am honoured to receive such a meaningful award.”
Mediapen reported that he appeared on the choral variety show 超燃青春的合唱, broadcast on iQiyi from April to June 2026. According to the same outlet, in July he and Renjun toured five Chinese cities with the fan meeting 2026 RENJUN&CHENLE FANMEETING ‘ROOMMATE’, starting in Hangzhou on the 5th and going on to Beijing on the 11th, Chengdu on the 17th, Guangzhou on the 19th and Shanghai on the 25th. The concept made the two of them and their fans roommates.
On the November 2025 mini album Beat It Up he sang ‘Butterflies’ with Renjun and Haechan, a unit track The Korea Herald described as an acoustic pop ballad over lyrical guitar.
