Johnny is a member of NCT 127, the seven-member SM Entertainment group. He co-hosted the SBS radio show NCT's night night! with Jaehyun for about a year and ten months, and has run his web series Johnny's Communication Center since 2018.
Johnny is a member of NCT 127, the seven-member group under SM Entertainment. ORICON NEWS gives his birthday as 9 February 1995 and his origin as the United States. According to TenAsia, he joined SM through an audition in the US in 2007 and was introduced as a new SM Rookie on 24 December 2013, together with Yuta and Ten.
Before his debut he was already on the side of the stage that plays the music. SPOTV News reported that at the Spectrum Dance Music Festival at Nanji Hangang Park in October 2016 he performed in DREAMSTATION CREW, a line-up SM put together for the festival with SHINee’s Key and f(x)’s Amber and Luna, among others. That December SM named him, with Doyoung, as a new member of NCT 127 and introduced him as “a member with outstanding DJing and piano skills”.
Radio came by chance. According to SPOTV News, he filled in as a one-day host of SBS Power FM’s Love Game in February 2017, and a month later, in the spring reshuffle, became co-host of NCT’s night night! with Jaehyun. The show aired for an hour every night at 11 p.m. from 20 March. “Being a radio DJ is like writing a diary every day. When you look back at something from a few years ago, it has changed a lot,” he told Yonhap in 2018. Xports News reported that he left the chair with the broadcast of 27 January 2019, about a year and ten months in, as NCT 127 set out on its first world tour.
He has held the microphone often since. On 25 October 2019 he co-hosted SM’s charity concert SMile Music Festival 2019 with Doyoung, and the same month the two sat in as special DJs on MBC Standard FM’s Idol Radio. In September 2025 he was chosen as the sole host of Merry Talk, Major League Baseball’s lifestyle talk series, Sports Donga reported. On 15 October that year his YouTube series Jansori (쟌소리) began, in which he listens to viewers’ worries and gives advice.
The web series that carries his name, Johnny’s Communication Center, began on 21 November 2018 when episode zero went up on the NCT DAILY channel. Episode one, released the next day, followed his first Thanksgiving in Korea. Episode 47, posted on NCT’s official channel on 7 September 2025, was filmed on Jeju.
He writes, too. SM said he joined Taeyong and other members in writing the lyrics of ‘낮잠 (Pandora’s Box)’ and ‘우산 (Love Song)’ on the second full-length album, NCT #127 Neo Zone, released on 6 March 2020. On the tenth-anniversary album BLINGY he is credited with Taeyong for the lyrics of ‘I mean, It’s about time’. Of his own music, he told Interview Magazine in February 2025 that he was talking it through with the label and that “one of the genres that might be an option is house music”.
On 26 February 2025 Marie Claire Korea reported that he had been named a global ambassador for the Swedish fashion house Acne Studios. According to Soompi, the connection began when he attended the brand’s FW24 show in February 2024, followed by its SS25 show that September.
He joined the SBS basketball variety show Yeolhyeol Nonggudan: Rising Eagles as a player; it premiered on 29 November 2025. “Through the show I wanted to show fans that Johnny gives his best at whatever he does,” he told Star News. In an earlier Star News interview, in October 2025, he named his goal: “I always want to be an artist who can show fans a great stage, and a senior that younger artists want to learn from.”
