Yuta is a member of NCT 127, the seven-member SM Entertainment group, and the company's first Japanese artist. He debuted as a soloist in Japan in 2024, played the Nippon Budokan with his first full-length album PERSONA, and acts in film and television.
Yuta is a member of NCT 127, the seven-member group under SM Entertainment. ORICON NEWS gives his birthday as 26 October 1995 and his origin as Osaka Prefecture. According to Mynavi News, he passed an SM global audition held in his home city of Osaka in 2012 and became SM’s first Japanese trainee. His work in Japan first found a home on radio. InterFM introduced NCT 127 ユウタのYUTA at Home, first broadcast on 4 December 2020, as the first radio programme in Japan to carry his name. It now airs for 30 minutes on Thursdays at 9 p.m. In 2021 he was named in Newsweek Japan’s special issue on “100 Japanese people the world respects”.
He acts under his full name, Nakamoto Yuta. His first film was HiGH&LOW THE WORST X, released on 9 September 2022; eiga.com reported that it was both his first film and his first acting role, and that he played Ryo Suzaki, a fighter no one can beat. He told Cinema Today he hoped it would be “a tool to show another side of Nakamoto Yuta”, and that he wanted to keep working as an actor. His first television drama followed on 14 April 2023, TV Tokyo’s late-night Cool Doji Danshi (クールドジ男子).
In the film Specials (スペシャルズ), released on 6 March 2026, he played Kiryu, a killer who carries old wounds and prefers to work alone. “I’ve wanted to try a killer, or a slightly unusual role, for a long time,” he told ORICON NEWS.
His solo debut in Japan was announced in 2024. According to ORICON NEWS, a showcase tour came first: YUTA Solo Debut Showcase Tour 〜 HOPE 〜, nine shows across five cities (Fukuoka, Hyogo, Aichi, Tokyo and Osaka) that October, every one of them sold out. His first mini album, Depth, released on 13 November, entered ORICON’s weekly album ranking at number four. Billboard JAPAN’s interview noted that his name is on the lyrics and music of every one of its seven tracks except ‘BAD EUPHORIA’. He described what the album holds as “what was deep inside me”, and named L’Arc〜en〜Ciel, whom he found through an anime theme song, as where his love of rock began.
After his first single, ‘TWISTED PARADISE’, in May 2025, his first full-length album, PERSONA, came out on 26 October and also entered the weekly ranking at number four. ORICON NEWS reported that he took it on a 13-show hall tour of ten cities from October, with an added date as his first solo show at the Nippon Budokan. That show took place on 21 January 2026.
He began 2026 by opening his official YouTube channel, YuTube, on 30 January. According to ORICON NEWS, he performed his first solo stage at the Fukuoka show of SMTOWN LIVE, his agency’s joint concert, in the tenth year since his debut, and called it “a big achievement, even in my own eyes”.
He also sang for a series he loved as a child. TV Asahi’s Kamen Rider Zeztz (仮面ライダーゼッツ) chose his ‘PLAY BACK’ as the new theme for its second chapter, and the CD came out on 13 May. On 31 May he played the music festival METROCK 2026 in his home city of Osaka. In the film 仮面ライダーゼッツ さよならのミッション, released on 24 July, he sang the theme song, ‘Dreams Never Sleep’, and appeared as the actor Nakamoto Yuta in the role of a “mysterious biker”. “Appearing in the Kamen Rider I always looked up to was endlessly exciting. It was only a moment, but it’s become a treasure for life,” he told ORICON NEWS.
