In the run of member reveals before the debut, Rei was the fifth. Edaily reported on 7 November 2021 that Rei, born in 2004 and a Japanese national, would take the rap and vocal positions in IVE. Hankook Ilbo, writing on 17 November that year, described her as from Japan and quoted her own introduction: “The members call me Kim Rei because my Korean is good. I hold the rap position in IVE.”
