Sakuya is a member of NCT WISH, the six-member SM Entertainment group who debuted on 21 February 2024 with ‘WISH’. Mynavi News wrote on 4 July 2024 that he joined through an audition and trained for about a year, and noted that he had said on a TV programme that he passed the audition just by sending in a video. His way to the stage began in the audience: as ORICON NEWS quoted him the day after the debut, the first concert of his life was SMTOWN, and admiring that stage is what brought him this far.
On the pre-debut reality programme NCT Universe: LASTART, he took on his first mission with Ryo, performing NCT DREAM’s ‘Chewing Gum’. On 26 January 2024 SM introduced him as a member who made an impression with a mid-to-low voice and forceful rapping, and quoted the assessments he received on the programme. Leeteuk said: “It isn’t easy to smile on stage, but he really enjoyed it.” Johnny said: “His role in shifting the mood of the song stood out.”
At the press conference before the group’s debut stage at Tokyo Dome, asked what content he would like to make on YouTube, he put his hand up straight away and answered: a show about making bread (ORICON NEWS, 22 February 2024). ‘WISH BAKERY’ later appeared on the group’s official channel, and the member-colour jackets for Songbird reused that content’s colours. In a Modelpress interview (25 July 2024) he said he was happy, because he had never expected the colours to be used somewhere like that.
On 9 May 2026 he was a special MC for the first time, on MBC’s Show! Music Core, alongside ILLIT’s WONHEE. According to Sports Today he said: “It was my first time, so I was very nervous, but the two of them looked after me well, so I think it will stay a good memory.” Nerves are something he often talks about. In an ELLE Korea interview (30 March 2026), where he named debut day as the time he was most nervous, he said: “I don’t think nerves are a bad thing in themselves. I think you need a certain amount of tension to focus more on stage.”
