The song
‘Haru Haru’ (하루하루) is the title track of Stand Up, the third mini album BIGBANG released on 8 August 2008. OSEN reported on 29 July 2008 that the record had been moved from 1 August to 8 August, and that the song came out of a collaboration with the Japanese producer Daishi Dance. According to the same report, Daishi Dance, a Shibuya-kei artist, made the backing track and G-Dragon wrote the melody, the rap and the lyrics over it, with a lead piano line driving the fast rhythm.
The Korea Herald also wrote, in its 6 April 2020 selection of 50 BIGBANG tracks, that the song’s piano riff came out of G-Dragon’s work with Daishi Dance. The credits give the lyrics to G-Dragon and the music to G-Dragon and Daishi Dance.
Numbers
According to OSEN, the group’s first comeback broadcast was SBS Inkigayo on 10 August. Sports Kyunghyang reported on 7 September 2008 that BIGBANG had won the Mutizen Song with this song on the 500th episode of Inkigayo. It was the third week running, after 24 and 31 August, and the same report says the song also reached number one on the K-Chart of KBS2’s Music Bank on 5 September.
Afterwards
That December the video was shot again for a variety programme. Seoul Economic Daily and CNB News reported that MBC’s Infinite Challenge aired, on 20 December, its cast shooting the song’s video with each of them playing one BIGBANG member, and both said the finished video would be shown at the ‘2008 Infinite Challenge You&Me Concert’ on 25 December. The story on ‘Lies’ and ‘Haru Haru’ tells it in full.
