About the group

BIGBANG is G-Dragon, Taeyang and Daesung. The three are with different agencies for their solo work — G-Dragon with Galaxy Corporation, Taeyang with The Black Label and Daesung with R&D Company — and come back together under the BIGBANG name. The group’s 2026 releases are announced and released by YG Entertainment. The fandom is V.I.P, and in May 2026 the sixth official fan club recruitment opened, the first since 2015.

2006: three singles in four months

BIGBANG debuted on 19 August 2006. Ten days later Bigbang First Single (29 August) began a run of three singles in four months — Bigbang Is V.I.P in September and Bigbang 03 in November — and the first full album, BIGBANG Vol.1, followed with eleven tracks on 22 December. ‘Lies’ and ‘Haru Haru’

The first mini album, Always, came out on the first anniversary, 16 August 2007; its introduction noted that the mini-album format was unfamiliar in Korea at the time. The Korea Herald called its title track ‘Lies’, written and composed by G-Dragon, the group’s breakthrough. ‘Haru Haru’, from the mini album Stand Up, whose release was pushed back to August 2008, was made with Daishi Dance, and on 20 December that year MBC’s Infinite Challenge re-shot and aired its music video. The two songs’ story is in this story. Idology wrote: “If you asked me for BIGBANG’s greatest strength, I would answer lyricism.”

From ALIVE to MADE

Billboard noted that ALIVE (29 February 2012) was the first Korean-language K-pop album to enter the Billboard 200. ‘LOSER’, from M (May 2015), the first full-group release in 1,157 days, held number one on the Circle Chart digital chart for three weeks. That year’s MADE series was gathered on 13 December 2016 into MADE, the first full album in eight years, which closed the tenth-anniversary project. Idology’s Jo Seong-min called it “the album in which BIGBANG’s strengths as idols and their standing as artists are most evenly balanced”. Still Life (5 April 2022) reached number nine on the Billboard Global 200.

The 20th anniversary

On 12 April 2026 BIGBANG played sixty minutes and seventeen songs on Coachella’s Outdoor Theatre — the stage it had been booked for in 2020, before the festival was cancelled. At the second weekend’s show, on 19 April, G-Dragon announced an August world tour (Coachella story).

On the 20th anniversary of the debut, 19 August 2026, the digital single BiiiG was released at 6pm KST — the group’s first new song in about four years and four months since Still Life — and within an hour it was number one on the Melon TOP100. Two days later, from 21 to 23 August, BIGBANG 2026-2027 WORLD TOUR ⟨XX : COSMOS⟩ opened at Goyang Stadium. All three shows sold out, and the tour runs to February 2027 with 33 shows in 19 cities across Asia, North America, Europe and Oceania. On the last night G-Dragon said: “We started in 2006 and here we are in 2026.
