'Lies', 'Haru Haru' and the music video Infinite Challenge shot again

BIGBANG’s first two years come down to two songs: ‘Lies’ in the summer of 2007 and ‘Haru Haru’ in the summer of 2008.

Star News reported on 12 September 2007 that ‘Lies’ had been the best-selling background music for Cyworld home pages over that August, at about 127,000 sales, and that it took a ‘Song of the Month’ award. ‘Haru Haru’, released the following year, turned up somewhere else that same December: the members of the MBC variety show Infinite Challenge shot the song’s music video again from scratch.

Summer 2007, ‘Lies’

‘Lies’ is a song from BIGBANG’s first mini album. Star News, writing on 12 September 2007, described it as a song from the mini album the group had just released.

The same report said ‘Lies’ had been the best-selling background music for Cyworld home pages through August 2007, at about 127,000 sales, and that the result brought BIGBANG a ‘Song of the Month’ award.

The Korea Herald, ranking 50 BIGBANG tracks on 6 April 2020, called ‘Lies’ the group’s breakthrough hit and said G-Dragon composed it and wrote the lyric.

8 August 2008, ‘Haru Haru’

The following year BIGBANG put out their third mini album, ‘Stand Up’. OSEN reported on 29 July 2008, citing the agency, that the record had moved from 1 August to 8 August.

The same report said the title track ‘Haru Haru’ came out of a collaboration with the Japanese producer Daishi Dance. The Korea Herald, on 6 April 2020, also traced the song’s piano riff to that collaboration.

December 2008, the music video Infinite Challenge shot again

MBC’s Infinite Challenge broadcast a making-of for a ‘Haru Haru’ music video on 20 December 2008. Seoul Economic Daily reported that six Infinite Challenge members took part in the shoot, and CNB News that each of them played one member of BIGBANG.

CNB News wrote that the episode followed the cast preparing for the 2008 Infinite Challenge You&Me Concert. Both outlets reported that the finished video would be shown at that concert on 25 December.

Seoul Economic Daily reported that the episode drew a 15.4 percent viewer rating.
