The record
Heartbreaker is G-Dragon’s first solo album, released on 18 August 2009. It was his first solo record three years after BIGBANG’s debut, and Star News reported that the whole record went up on the online music services that day. The title track is ‘Heartbreaker’, and the Melon and Genie song pages both give its lyrics, music and arrangement to G-Dragon.
YG Entertainment’s album introduction describes G-Dragon as the writer of BIGBANG’s ‘Lies’, ‘Last Farewell’, ‘Haru Haru’ and ‘Sunset Glow’, and says the title track opens with his narration. Two tracks are missing from the list above: the album’s information page withholds their titles.
Among the tracks
According to the same introduction, ‘소년이여’ (Sonyeoyeo) — the title calls out to a boy — and ‘Butterfly’ were released ahead of the album through Me2day, and the text describes the two as songs in opposite styles. Jin Jung features on ‘Butterfly’. Elsewhere on the record, Teddy and CL feature on ‘The Leaders’, Kim Gun-mo on ‘Gossip Man’ and Dara on ‘Hello’.
Numbers
According to Star News, the title track’s video, which went up on Gom TV’s YG TV channel at around 1 p.m. on release day, drew more than 350,000 views in three hours. In a report on 4 September, the same outlet put the count at 4,979,774 as of 10:33 that morning, the 18th day, and wrote that ‘Heartbreaker’ had reached number one on KBS2’s Music Bank on 28 August. The Korea Herald noted in a 26 February 2025 article that the album won album of the year at the 2009 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA).
Afterwards
G-Dragon’s next solo record was his first mini album, One Of A Kind, in September 2012. The four solo records from this one to KWON JI YONG in 2017 are taken in turn in the story on G-Dragon’s four solo albums.
