Rap, lyrics and drawing
Chaeyoung is a member of the nine-member girl group TWICE. In April 2015 JYP introduced her as the fifth contestant of SIXTEEN, a trainee of three years whose strengths were rap and performance (Xportsnews).
She wrote lyrics early. In May 2017 she wrote ‘EYE EYE EYES’ on SIGNAL with Jihyo, and that December she was credited with Dahyun for the rap-making on ‘MISSING U’ on Merry & Happy. On BETWEEN 1&2 (2022) and With YOU-th (2024) she wrote the lyrics of a track alone. The first 30,000 copies of the second mini album, PAGE TWO, in April 2016 came with a sleeve cover she designed herself (Xportsnews), and that October Spris released a ‘TWICE by Spris’ limited edition made from her hand drawings (Seoul Shinmun).
Chaeyoung as a solo artist
On 12 September 2025 she released her first full-length album, LIL FANTASY vol.1, with the title track ‘SHOOT (Firecracker)’. It was the fourth solo record to come out of TWICE, after Nayeon’s, Jihyo’s and Tzuyu’s. The agency relayed what she said about the title: “It’s the name of a small world inside me. And putting ‘vol.1’ after it means that this story doesn’t end here but will keep going on, in whatever direction.”
Chaeyoung worked on all ten songs and, beyond writing, composing and producing, directed the album’s whole creative side, down to its design, visuals and concept. In an interview with Billboard Korea she said that working out what she wanted to say took her “more than two years”, and that for the concept photos “I tried to reflect as much as possible of the world in the drawings I’ve been sketching”, adding that those drawings carry a lot of the style of Tim Burton, a director she admires. The music video for the pre-release song ‘AVOCADO (feat. Gliiico)’ came out on 1 September, and the album also carries a new recording of ‘내 기타’ (Nae gita, “my guitar”), her solo stage song from the fifth world tour, READY TO BE. The album reached number 38 on the US Billboard 200 dated 27 September (Newsis), and at the year’s end it was named on Rolling Stone’s ‘The 100 Best Albums of 2025’ (number 86) and Billboard’s best K-pop albums of 2025 (number seven). Billboard called it “a self-directed project” in which she writes and produces all ten tracks.
After August 2026
On 13 August 2026 Chaeyoung announced herself that her exclusive contract with JYP Entertainment had ended. “I’m going to make my music activities in my own ‘LIL FANTASY’ world,” she wrote, adding: “And more than anything, I also want to say that I’ll keep doing TWICE’s activities without change.”
