A host in the first year

Jeongyeon is a member of the nine-member girl group TWICE. In the year after the debut, on 17 March 2016, she and Chaeyoung became the first of Mnet M Countdown’s monthly intern hosts (Xportsnews), and from the broadcast of 3 July she was a regular host of SBS Inkigayo (Etoday).

Lyrics and a unit

The first song to carry her name as lyricist is ‘LOVE LINE’, on Merry & Happy in December 2017. On the fifth mini album, What is Love?, in April 2018 she wrote the lyrics of the second track, ‘SWEET TALKER’, with Chaeyoung (Xportsnews). ‘LALALA’ first appeared on the sixth mini album, YES or YES, that November, and the official track information of the December repackage, The year of “YES”, names Jeongyeon as its only lyricist.

‘1, 3, 2’, which she sang with Mina and Tzuyu on the third full-length album in November 2021, is one of the first unit songs TWICE released. She recalled: “A unit song was a first, so I was very nervous. With that many more parts, I felt the responsibility too” (Xportsnews). On the thirteenth mini album, With YOU-th, in February 2024 she again wrote the lyrics of one track alone, and in an interview before the release she described the album this way: “This time I think we’re talking about no one else’s youth but our own. TWICE’s youth.” (Harper’s Bazaar Korea)

The actor Yoo Jeong-yeon

On 10 August 2026 VARO Entertainment announced that it had signed an exclusive contract with Jeongyeon. The agency said it “deeply related to Yoo Jeong-yeon’s sincere attitude towards and genuine feeling for acting” and would be “a dependable partner that spares no support in every direction, so that she can carry on with her group activities smoothly as well as take up her new challenge as an actor”. Her real name, Yoo Jeong-yeon, is the name she uses for acting.

The same day Jeongyeon shared the news in a handwritten letter on social media. “I’m leaving JYP, where I spent a long time from my teenage years until now, to try another beginning in a new place,” she wrote, and of the group: “I will prepare one step at a time, with all my heart, both the steps of TWICE’s Jeongyeon whom you have loved and the new challenge of Yoo Jeong-yeon whom you will meet.”

Her first work was a film she had already finished shooting by then (Ilgan Sports). On 1 October the film 신병 더 무비: 군병원에 귀신이 산다 (Sinbyeong deo Mubi: Gunbyeongwone Gwisini Sanda), directed by Min Jin-ki, confirmed a release this winter, and with it the news that Jeongyeon makes her screen debut as the army nurse Yoo Jeong-yeon (TenAsia); the title reads “the recruit, the movie: a ghost lives in the military hospital”. In a video in June she had said: “Taking on acting recently, I was honestly very scared and it was hard, but there was just as much pride and sense of achievement, so it was really good” (TV Report).
