Ten years a trainee, then leader

Jihyo is a member of the nine-member girl group TWICE. She joined JYP Entertainment as a trainee in 2005 and, after about ten years, debuted in 2015 as the group’s leader and main vocalist (Star News). At the debut showcase she said that as leader she wanted to be one “who can bring the members’ opinions together well when they put them forward” (Etoday).

On the group’s albums her name first appears as a lyricist on ‘HO!’, the third track of the fifth mini album, What is Love?, in April 2018 (Xportsnews), and she was the sole lyricist of a track on the second full-length album, Eyes wide open, in October 2020 and on the eleventh mini album, BETWEEN 1&2, in August 2022.

Jihyo as a solo artist

On 18 August 2023 she released her first mini album, ZONE, with the title track ‘Killin’ Me Good’. After Nayeon’s, it was the second solo album to come out of TWICE. The agency explained the title as joining “Z” and “ONE”: “Jihyo (Z)’s first (ONE)” and “Jihyo (Z)’s whole, single (ONE) work”. She worked on all six tracks, and J.Y. Park joined her on the title track’s lyrics (Maeil Shinmun). The album also carries a track with the American rapper 24kGoldn and one she sings with the singer Heize.

At the press event on release day she said, “since it’s a solo album I’m releasing nineteen years after joining JYP as a trainee, I poured one hundred per cent of my effort into it” (Maeil Shinmun), and: “I really wanted to dance on stage. It makes me very happy as a singer that people like my strong point, a powerful performance” (Newsis). When she took her first solo win on KBS2 Music Bank on 25 August, she said: “I’m so grateful to be able to receive this for the first time without the members” (Sports Today). The album entered the US Billboard 200 at number 14, and that week she made her first appearance on the Billboard Artist 100, at number ten (Billboard).

The stages since

On 28 June 2025 she sang ‘New Days’, from the soundtrack of the Japanese version of the Amazon Prime original drama Marry My Husband (Star News). On 12 September 2026 she was the special headliner of WATERBOMB Kaohsiung 2026 in Taiwan, singing twelve songs including her solo songs and a medley of TWICE’s best-known titles (Newsen). On 1 October she was announced as the first host and performer of the D Awards 2027 in Paris, at the Plenitude Arena in Paris on 15 and 16 January 2027 (News1).

On the brand side, she was chosen in January 2023 as a model for the beauty brand Milk Touch, and Money Today reported that it was the first time she had been the sole model of a beauty brand.
