Rosé (로제) is the main vocalist of BLACKPINK, which debuted on 8 August 2016 with the single album SQUARE ONE. The Korea Herald reported in 2021 that she was born in Auckland, New Zealand, and raised in Melbourne, Australia.
On tvN’s You Quiz on the Block in December 2024, Rosé said it was her father’s suggestion that she try the YG audition held in Australia. SPOTV NEWS reported that she came first in that audition, against odds of 700 to one, and moved to Korea. On the same programme she named Coachella as the most memorable stage since her debut, calling it “a new experience.”
R, released on 12 March 2021 with two tracks, ‘On The Ground’ and ‘Gone’, is her first solo single album. YG Entertainment said the title comes from the first letter of her name, and NME noted it as the second solo release by a BLACKPINK member, after Jennie’s ‘SOLO’ in 2018. The Korea Herald reported that ‘On The Ground’ reached number 70 on the Billboard Hot 100, number one on the Billboard Global 200 and Global Excl. US charts, and number 43 on the UK Official Singles Chart. The same report said her agency, citing Hanteo Chart, put the album’s first-week sales at 448,089 copies.
In June 2024 Korea JoongAng Daily reported that Rosé had signed a management contract with THE BLACK LABEL for her solo career, and that the four members’ YG Entertainment contracts, signed in December 2023, cover group activities. The company said the contract rested on the trust she and Teddy had built over the years as artist and producer.
On 18 October that year came ‘APT.’, a single with Bruno Mars. Its chorus comes from the chant of a Korean drinking game called “apartment”, and NME reported that the song began with Rosé teaching Bruno Mars the game. After a second pre-release song, ‘number one girl’, on 22 November, her first solo full-length album, rosie, arrived on 6 December with twelve tracks led by ‘toxic till the end’. The album notes said she took part in writing the words and music of every track.
‘APT.’ won Song of the Year at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards on 7 September, and ET News reported it as the first K-pop win in that category. The song was then nominated in three categories at the 68th Grammy Awards, among them Song of the Year and Record of the Year, and on 1 February 2026 Rosé opened the ceremony performing it with Bruno Mars.
The video at the top of this page is the music video for ‘Messy’, released in May 2025 on the soundtrack of the film F1. On 18 September 2026 came the single ‘new trick’. Korea JoongAng Daily, citing THE BLACK LABEL, described it as a garage-punk track about overcoming hardship and moving forward with a “new trick” of one’s own, co-produced by Amy Allen and Andrew Wells. Rosé releases 'new trick' at 8 a.m. KST on 18 September 2026. Dave Meyers directed the video, filmed entirely on iPhone 18 Pro for Apple's 'Shot on iPhone' campaign. She told Vogue she wrote it with Amy Allen after the Met Gala as a change from the sad songs on her 2024 album rosie.
