Why Is RESCENE Everywhere in 2026?
A song from August 2024 topped Melon in July 2026, a KARA remake gave RESCENE their first music show wins and four Korean cities made them ambassadors. Here is the chain of events behind the year, with sources.
What happened
RESCENE are a five-member girl group from THE MUZE Entertainment who debuted in March 2024 without a chart hit. Their 2026 began quietly: in February, leader Woni opened a personal YouTube channel. In a video published there on 20 March — ‘갸루의 자세에 대해서 배워보았습니다’, a gyaru-culture lesson — Japanese member Minami greeted the camera with ‘거제, 야호~!’ (“Geoje, yahoo!”; Geoje is Woni’s hometown), and Woni shot back that Geoje citizens would scold her. The line became a meme, and Melon’s first-half 2026 report says interest spread from May and turned into chart results in June.
The song that benefited was not new. ‘LOVE ATTACK’, the title track of the group’s first mini album SCENEDROME from August 2024, had entered Melon’s daily chart at 904th in September 2024. By 30 June 2026 it was 5th on the Melon TOP100, and on 9 July it reached number one, about two years after release. Melon named RESCENE the representative reverse run artist of the half-year.
One day earlier, on 8 July, RESCENE had released ‘Pretty Girl’, a remake of KARA’s 2008 title track. It debuted in the top five, took the group’s first music show win on The Show on 14 July and their first terrestrial win on Show! Music Core on 25 July. The video passed 20 million views within three weeks.
Why is it trending?
The trigger was a member’s channel, not an agency campaign. Munhwa Ilbo credited a gyaru-and-dialect concept on Woni’s channel that spread on social media and revived streams of ‘LOVE ATTACK’ organically. The follow-up did the rest: on 22 May the channel took Minami’s gyaru character to Geoje itself in ‘갸루와 거제에 왔습니다’, which passed six million views, and by 10 June the channel had overtaken RESCENE’s official channel in subscribers. By early July it had 1.2 million subscribers and videos averaging four to five million views, according to Star News.
Melon’s own numbers show the scale: compared with the moment the channel opened, RESCENE’s streaming had risen by as much as 2,019% and listeners by 977% by the end of June, and in-app searches for the group were up 6,550% since the meme began. That audience was waiting when ‘Pretty Girl’ arrived on 8 July, which is why a remake single could chart alongside a two-year-old title track.
The summer then stacked reasons to keep searching: Geoje, Suwon, Gyeongju and Goyang appointed the group as city ambassadors, they played KCON LA’s Toyota Music Den Stage on 15 August and they are in the performer lineup of the K-World Dream Awards on 27 August.
