Who Bae is

Bae (배이) is a member of NMIXX, the six-member JYP Entertainment girl group. She debuted with the group on 22 February 2022 with the single album AD MARE.

In front of a standing mic

Bae was fifth in the order of pre-debut reveals. Xports News reported that at midnight on 8 October 2021 JYP posted ‘Break My Heart Cover | QUALIFYING | HASE Choreography’ on the JYPn channel, introducing her for the first time, about a month after Sullyoon had been revealed. According to the same report she began the song standing in front of a mic stand, and her appealing low register and solid vocals stood out together with her facial expression and her handling of the choreography.

Later in the series came videos that paired members up. Star News, writing on 24 November, named a unit cover by Sullyoon and Bae among them.

A low voice, and lyrics

Reviewing the first EP expérgo on 22 March 2023, NME’s Gladys Yeo singled her out: “Bae also features far more prominently in this release, her deep, chic tone making its mark in ‘Love Me Like This’ and ‘PAXXWORD’.”

On the fifth EP, Heavy Serenade, released in May 2026, she appeared as a lyricist as well: iMBC reported that Bae is credited on ‘Different Girl’ and ‘Superior’. The album introduction describes ‘Different Girl’ as a future-bass song built on trap drums, an R&B chord progression and dreamlike synths, and Idology’s Quibbie heard it, with ‘Crescendo’, as a track that draws “the helpless, irresistible chaos of love”.

In the same iMBC report Bae called the record “an album that holds NMIXX’s colour”, with “songs that express the feeling of love in many different ways”. Of HANRORO, who wrote the title track’s lyric, she said that “the whole lyric is as beautiful as a poem”, and named the line “Then I realize 모든 꽃말은 너야” as the one that stayed with her most.

A show of her own

In March 2024 she became the sole host of the web series 회포자 (Hoepoja). Newsis reported on 29 February, citing the agency, that Bae would present the new series on the YouTube channel 아쌉스튜디오 (Assap Studio) by herself. The title shortens a Korean phrase for “the one the company gave up on”, and in it she tries out the things she had always wanted to do. It premiered on 6 March and went up every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. A month later Electronic Times, reporting Haewon’s move to host Workdol, recorded Bae’s Hoepoja as the first web series hosted solo by a member of the group.

Latin America and the practice room

In a W Korea interview ahead of the group’s South American shows in February 2026, Bae explained the long link with Latin America by pointing to the Spanish word “Baila” in the lyric of the debut song ‘O.O’, and said she was taking Spanish lessons. In the same interview she described her routine: “Even now I take six to eight hours of dance lessons a day, and I always have vocal lessons before and after.”

Previewing the first world tour, she said the shows would be played with a full live band and urged listeners to hear the new arrangement of ‘Rico’, a track on the first full-length album Blue Valentine. IZM’s Nam Gang-min wrote that “the Latin-based hip-hop of ‘Rico’ presses down heavily in the low register”.

The two songs Bae helped write, ‘Different Girl’ and ‘Superior’, are the fourth and fifth tracks on Heavy Serenade. ‘Different Girl’, the one Quibbie named, is the place to start.
