Who is Rora?
Rora (로라) is a member of BABYMONSTER (베이비몬스터), the seven-member girl group under YG Entertainment. The agency’s official profile gives her birthday as 14 August 2008 and the group’s debut date as 1 April 2024.
The road to debut
YG Entertainment posted ‘BABYMONSTER - Introducing RORA’ on its official blog on 16 February 2023. Sports Kyunghyang, reporting on the film the same day, described Rora as a Korean trainee and wrote that she had been picked up as a YG trainee while performing in a children’s girl group. The same report said she travelled alone between her family home in Chuncheon and Seoul to keep up her schooling and her practice. Yang Hyun-suk, the executive producer, said: “Rora has even the feel of hip-hop. She is good enough that you wonder whether anyone should be that good.”
In the same report Rora said: “I hope people feel happiness when they hear me sing. Rather than a second someone, I want to be the first Rora, and an artist who shines on stage like a beautiful aurora.”
The seventh place
How Rora came to debut with BABYMONSTER is in the closing stretch of the announcement film. YG Entertainment ran the final selection as a video series called ‘Last Evaluation’, then posted the debut member announcement film on its official blog at midnight on 12 May 2023. According to The Fact, Yang Hyun-suk named five members first, then added Rora, who had been due to join another YG girl group, and Asa, who had been preparing a new project in Japan, so that all seven debuted with nobody cut. He said he had spent the two weeks after the series ended watching how fans responded, and added: “Asa and Rora are the members you chose.”
Debut and after
The first record all seven made together is the first mini album BABYMONS7ER, released on 1 April 2024. Star News quoted Rora from the round-table interview held that day. On the label the group had carried since before its debut, Rora said: “Our team has a range of nationalities, so I think we can work well globally. We have a lot of our own powerful, hip mood, so I think we can put out plenty of songs with character.”
Solo stages
At the last of the three Seoul shows of the second world tour, ‘CHOOM’, at Jamsil Arena on 28 June 2026, Rora took a solo stage with ‘Havana’. SPOTV News reported that six members each took a solo stage that night, and quoted Rora: “Because it was the last day, the members worked hard on their solo stages too, so I think MONSTIEZ enjoyed watching.” In the same report she added: “Thank you so much for being with us in Seoul at the very start of the world tour.”
What to watch
Rora appears on every record from the debut digital single ‘BATTER UP’ to the third mini album 춤 (CHOOM), and the first the seven made together is BABYMONS7ER. The records and the official channel are gathered on the BABYMONSTER hub, and the two nights at Kyocera Dome Osaka in September 2026 close the Japanese leg of this tour.
