Who is BABYMONSTER?
BABYMONSTER (베이비몬스터) is a seven-member girl group under YG Entertainment. The agency’s official profile lists the members as Ruka, Pharita, Asa, Ahyeon, Rami, Rora and Chiquita, and gives the debut date as 1 April 2024. According to Xports News it is a multinational team of three Korean, two Thai and two Japanese members, and the first new girl group YG Entertainment had launched in about seven years, since BLACKPINK. The fan club is called MONSTIEZ.
Becoming seven
Between January and March 2023 YG Entertainment posted an individual introduction film for each of the seven prospective members on its official blog, one at a time. The first was Ruka’s on 9 February 2023 and the last was Haram’s — now Rami — on 2 March.
The seven revealed in those films were not the seven who debuted. The agency ran the final selection as a video series called ‘Last Evaluation’, then posted the debut member announcement film at midnight on 12 May 2023. According to The Fact, Yang Hyun-suk called Ahyeon, Ruka, Chiquita, Haram and Pharita in turn, then added Rora and Asa, who had been due elsewhere, so that all seven debuted with nobody cut. He said he had spent the two weeks after the series ended watching how fans responded, and added: “Asa and Rora are the members you chose.”
The team has no leader. Star News reported this from the debut round-table interview of 1 April 2024, carrying Ruka’s and Ahyeon’s account of how rap, dance and vocals are divided between them.
Debut and records
The debut came in two stages. Six members released the digital single ‘BATTER UP’ on 27 November 2023, and NME reported the next day that its music video had been played 22.59 million times on its first day, the most for a K-pop debut music video in 24 hours. The first record the seven made together, after Ahyeon joined, is the first mini album BABYMONS7ER, released on 1 April 2024, its title swapping the T of the group’s name for a 7. That album carries ‘LIKE THAT’, made with Charlie Puth.
The first full-length album DRIP followed on 1 November 2024 with nine tracks. It placed sixth and eighth, by edition, on Circle Chart’s monthly album chart for November that year, and Jung Ki-yeop of IZM wrote that “an album that mobilised every generation of YG musicians is proof of the expectations placed on the label’s youngest group”. The second mini album WE GO UP arrived on 10 October 2025, the third mini album 춤 (CHOOM) on 4 May 2026, and the digital single ‘SUGAR HONEY ICE TEA’ on 8 June 2026.
There have been two music-show wins. According to OSEN the group took first place on Mnet’s ‘M Countdown’ with ‘SHEESH’ on 2 May 2024, a month after the debut, and according to MyDaily the win with ‘WE GO UP’ on the same programme on 16 October 2025 was the first time it received a trophy on a live broadcast.
On stage
In the summer of its debut year the group played its first fan-meeting tour, twelve shows across seven Asian cities, and took the stage at Summer Sonic 2024, Japan’s largest music festival, OSEN reported. The first world tour, HELLO MONSTERS, began in January 2025 and drew 300,000 people across 32 shows in 20 cities.
The second world tour, ‘CHOOM’, opened with three nights at Jamsil Arena in Seoul from 26 to 28 June 2026. SPOTV News reported that at the last Seoul show six members each took a solo stage: Rora with ‘Havana’, Asa with ‘Temple’, Pharita with ‘Super Bass’, Chiquita with ‘Buttons’ and ‘Worth It’, Ruka with ‘Ratata’ and Ahyeon with ‘Problem’. The Japanese leg of that tour ended with two nights at Kyocera Dome Osaka on 22 and 23 September 2026, the group’s first dome shows, which drew 90,000 people (iMBC Entertainment).
Channel and brand
The group’s official YouTube channel opened in December 2022. According to Star News its cumulative view count passed ten billion on 3 September 2026; the roughly three years and eight months it took is the fastest for a single K-pop girl group channel and the second to reach the mark, after BLACKPINK. The same report gave 410 million views for ‘SHEESH’, 400 million for ‘DRIP’ and 340 million for ‘BATTER UP’.
According to Singlelist, the make-up brand banila co named BABYMONSTER a brand ambassador on 11 February 2025.
