BTS's 'ARIRANG' South America Shows Head to Cinemas in 80-Plus Territories
BTS's 'ARIRANG' shows in Buenos Aires on 24 October and São Paulo on 30 October will reach cinemas worldwide. Star News reported more than 80 countries and regions and about 3,800 screens, with CGV, Lotte Cinema and Megabox taking part in Korea.
What happened
Two South America shows from BTS’s ‘ARIRANG’ world tour will be broadcast to cinemas worldwide. The event is titled ‘BTS WORLD TOUR ‘ARIRANG’ LIVE VIEWING FROM BUENOS AIRES & SÃO PAULO’, and Trafalgar Releasing is the distributor.
Two shows are being broadcast. According to Star News, they are the third night in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 24 October, and the second night in São Paulo, Brazil, on 30 October. BroadwayWorld reported that tickets went on sale on 17 September, that the official trailer arrived the same day, and that the event is presented by Trafalgar Releasing, HYBE and BIGHIT MUSIC.
When and where
Outlets reported the scale slightly differently. Star News gave more than 80 countries and regions and about 3,800 screens; BroadwayWorld gave over 3,700 cinemas across more than 85 territories. In Korea, the three major multiplex chains — CGV, Lotte Cinema and Megabox — are showing it.
Screening dates split by region. BroadwayWorld reported that the Buenos Aires broadcast screens on 24 October in the Americas and on 25 October in the rest of the world, and that the São Paulo broadcast screens on 30 October in the Americas and on 31 October elsewhere. Star News reported that regions with a large time difference, including Korea, the rest of Asia and Australia, see it one to two days after the show itself. Booking opened on 17 September, from 10 a.m. KST in Korea and at 10 p.m. the same day globally.
Why it matters
This is the first time a South America show has reached the cinema broadcasts. BroadwayWorld reported that these are the fourth and fifth live viewings of the ‘ARIRANG’ tour, after Goyang, Tokyo and Busan. The same outlet noted that the Buenos Aires broadcast carries BTS’s first-ever performance in Argentina.
A live viewing is how audiences in regions the tour does not reach see the same stage. This time, shows held in South America travel to cinemas in Asia and Europe, and the regions furthest out in time see the same footage a few days later. The tour schedule and the cinema schedule run on separate clocks.
